not married

Just querying something that a local colleague mentioned to me this morning.

Do parents need to be married in order for the father's name to be put on the birth certifcate of a child born in HK?

Also, are there any things to be careful of when giving birth in HK when you choose not to be married?

Thanks

I don't think the couple needs to be married. I have a friend who is a single mum, but she has the father of child put on the BC without getting married to him.

A little bit additional paper work needs to get done, as the unmarried father's consent is required (and I'm not sure if they need to go in, in person with identification etc) to be listed on the BC.

Yes, be prepared for having to explain some elementary birds and bees stuff to locals who don't quite understand. I got loads of 'But you're not married...' along with puzzled looks when I announced my (unmarried) pregnancies. I once had someone ask me if unmarried women were entitled to maternity leave...
