Nipples on fire, help!!!

Has anyone out there had to endure really sore (to the point of searing pain sometimes) nipples during pregnancy?

I might be an outlyer because last December, I had a breast reduction performed on side only, before which the surgeon did warn me that one of the side effects of the op could be increased sensitivity in that breast, but I wasn't expecting this kind of pain!

I know that soreness and tenderness is normal because of hormones blah blah, but if anyone has encountered pain beyond just the "normal" soreness, it would be great if you could share...

not yet because it had just gotten particularly bad in the past week. i'm due to see him next thursday (for the big "12 week scan"!!) so i will definitely ask him then.

thanks for your reply and sympathy. it's amazing how the sympathy from others does help buoy us through... :grouphug:

Hi,

I always have so much pain too coz I have an accessory breast on my left side. The pain goes away though at mid pregnancy and returns again after you have given birth. It is indeed very very painful. However, it went away with mine after a month or two. Supposedly, it's fine as long as it doesn't harden (breastitis or something like that). Best to see a breast specialist.

Massages can ease the pain.
 
Thanks so much, Val23! What you've said is really reassuring to hear. No, I don't have any hardening of tissue around there, so that's at least good. But as you said, the pain is insane sometimes! I guess at least I know my milk ducts are working properly :-)

Just out of curiosty, what is an accessory breast? is that like an implant or something else? for me, it was only a reduction on one side (for assymetry), no implants (couldn't afford any!).

An accessory breast is extra breast tissue. Mine is near the armpit. They say because of hormones some people get it when they are pregnant. They told me that it should get smaller after I give birth. If it doesn't go away, I may have to have it surgically removed. Now, that is annoying and inconvenient.

I hope you feel better. For me, I'll just wait and see until after I give birth.
 
Hi Val23 - yes I have heard of this before. And I think in most cases (that I have heard of) it does go away almost completely. It is really shocking what hormones can do to us during pregnancy (or anytime actually!). Best of luck to you - I hope everything goes smoothly and works out.
