Hi,
I just found out I'm pregnant and am in process of selecting an OB.
I received a list of recommendations from my GP but not sure how to go about meeting ALL (9 on the list) of them?
How do you select your OB and do you have to consult each one of them?
That's going to be very expensive.
Please send some advise and suggstions on your recommended OB.
Thanks and brgds/Cindy

Hi Cindy!

I had the same problem a month ago! I will say the best bet is to check whether you have any friends who have delivered with any of the doctors on your list. It will also be good to call each of the clinic to find out how much they charge for consultation and scans and which hospitals the doctors deliver in. For example if you prefer to deliver on the HK side, doctors who are based in HK are more likely to be registered with hospitals over there rather then in Kowloon. Finding out all these details may help you narrow down your choices. I have also asked for opinions of others on this site. Mothers who have delivered with the doctor who you are enquiring will often give sound advise and let you know whether they had a good experience. And I am with Dr. Catherine Cheung. Good Luck!

Cindy Congratulations!! You can search the site for reviews on Drs. The search box is just below the menu on the left.

Hi Rani,

I am Simran,

I have only just relocated to hong kong few months back and went for a general check up at Gyno Catherine Cheung.

I paid a consultation fee of 500 and 500 for ultrasound and 200 for pap smear which i found reasonable.

I am however pregnant and went back to catherine cheung for a check and i paid 500 consultation fee of 500 and ultrasound 500 which again i found reasonable however when asked how much it would cost for delivery and if she had any packages she said she had none, and I have chosen to deliver at canossa in a private room which is also booked thru catherine cheungs office my question is can i use this booking even if i dont use catherine cheung to do the delivery. do you have any idea on her rates for delivery I am on a budget of around hk$ 80,000 from now inclusive of check ups to the delivery itself inclusive of epidurals etc if required under normal delivery and required stay at the hospital

i could goto get myself checked at canossa and use caherine chung for the delivery, however i am open to suggestions of another doctor who might be reasonable in general i find catherine cheung easy to deal with but her not telling me her prices upfront makes me feel i might end up with a suprise at then end of it all! which i can do without... any suggestions would help.

Would somebody be kind enough to reply to my post I fthey have used the services of catherine cheung or know someone who has

Hi Mahesh05,

I am also going to Canossa, I am not sure about Catherine's final charges as I am partialy covered by insurance. According to my colleagues who also delivered with Catherine, they mentioned that her fees were reasonable.

Hello there

Hi,

I am using Dr. Raymond Ng. I've been to a couple and so far I think he is the most detailed doctor and who doesnt rush you to make decisions. His fees are lower I think. My insurance covers them but the first time I saw him with ultrasound and smear test cost a total ofr $750 only (I charged it to my insurance and since I am still in my waiting period of 9 months, my insurance charged me that price). Each time I see him, he allows about 45 minutes for everything. However, he will be out of town when I deliver so I've decided to deliver in QMH rather than go to another doctor who I may not be so comfortable with.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Cindy,

Great advice a friend of mine gave me when i first found out I was pregnant and realized I didn't even have a clue which doctor to go to was to not panic as I would have 9 months to find the perfect doctor. The ob-gyn listed on this site are some of the best so good to check them out. It also depends on what you're looking for in terms of personality, language skills, pricing etc. This IS the person you'll be seeing alot of and really needing when you're in labour so best to try as many as you need until you find the one you're happy with. Don't take too long though if you are planning to deliver in a private hospital as space is very limited.

I'm seeing Dr Alex Doo and think he's great. Pleasant bedside manner, very open, friendly, gives you an overview of the various options etc. He only goes to Sanatorium, Adventist or Matilda though.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi Cindy,

I am with Arabinda Ghosh, of Veritas medical clinic and will deliver at Matilda. I moved to HK a few months ago and am with him on the recommendation of a number of friends here who had him as their Ob Gyn. I am very happy with him.

My understanding is that all these doctors are very ex-pat friendly and have a western approach to maternity care etc. if that is what you are looking for. To avoid paying lots of money in consultation fees, why don't you just put a list together of your 3 or 4 main questions and concerns and ask to speak to one of the doctors or one of their nurses/staff by phone before booking the consultation.

Celine just pregnant

Hi everybody,

I m french and in HK for 1 year. I just found out I'm Pregnant for 1 month, like you Cindy. It was not previous in the schedule so I dont have insurance to cover the maternity it means a lot of money!!!

I'd like having a doctor to follow me for 9 months and delivery in a public hospital to save money but I don t have any friends with baby so that s erally difficult for me to know where I have to go. I m so afraid because I hate the hospital and I m not in my country. I just have my husband to help me so.....

Could you give me some advice about good gynecologist and a good hospital I can feel safe

tks a lot:flower:
Here you have my email adress: [email protected]:yeah2

celi, congrats! don't worry, the public hospitals take good care of their patients, because they need to keep up to the government's regulations! i'm alone in hk with only my husband and his family, too. i saw a private ob/gyn and also went to the MCHC's for check-ups. delivered at a public hospital in july. everything went fine! this way, you will also spend very little money, and with the money you save (about 100k?!), you can enjoy many other things afterwards with your baby. i would say go for public and don't be afraid. do pm me if you need to ask me questions.

Hi there, I just saw Canossa's comprehensive maternity package ($28,000 incl. all antenatal visits, delivery and post-natal visits). Just called up to enquire, with this package you can choose the first class room and one of their ob/gyn specialists: Amelia Wong, Catherine Cheung and Wilfred Wong.

What's Catherine Cheung like? Is she ex-pat friendly?

I gave birth yesterday at the Matilda Hospital and Dr Alex Doo delivered my little girl.

It was my third baby, in as many years, so I was hoping for a short and sweet labour. Turned out to be 15 hours long but I put that down to having to be induced. To cut a long story short (literally) I went from 4cm to 10cm in 10 minutes! Even after receiving an epirdural, I began to get breakthrough pain as I dilated so quickly.

Dr Doo raced in to the delivery room as soon as they told him I had dilated from 5 to 10 in 10 minutes.

He delivered my baby in 2 pushes without any tearing or cuts and he truly is an amazing Doctor.

If you are looking for the best Obstetrician in Hong Kong to deliver your baby, then look no further than Dr Alex Doo. You can find him at his clinic in Central, at The Women's Clinic in Central Building (3rd Floor).

Thanks Dr Doo, you're the best!
:thanks
Hayley

dr. doo plus matilda

Does anyone have any idea how much a c-section (heart problem) will cost if I have it done in Matilda and with Dr. Alex Doo. Including hospital fees and the professional fee. I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant already and my husband has decided for me to give birth there in H.K.. We are planning to go there this coming wednesday for a doctor's consultation and a choice of hospital to where I'm gonna give birth to. Please advice and recommend tnx :)

I'm not sure if it changes according to the obstetrician but i had a c-section 20 months ago at the Matilda, stayed in a private room and it cost $115,000 or thereabouts all in. Am due to have another c-section in 5 weeks so anticipating a similar if not higher charge. Thankfully we have great insurance.
