Newcomer in DB

I have recently moved to DB and I'm having really hard time adjusting-much to my dismay. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old..and I am starting to loose it!! My husband is currently a pilot with Cathay Pacific and he's away alot. This leaves me alone a fair amount of the time. When he is home, he's trying to get rested..usually takes him 2 days or so to get back to "normal" then he's usually busy getting things in the flat together so we can get settled. I might get an hour to go get groceries. Then he has to take a day to prepare for his next flight, get sleep to be alert for the next flight and the process repeats itself.

We haven't the funds to afford a helper at the moment, and my 2 year old has peaked at the "testing" two's stage. She almost got run over tonight by a hire car. My one year old is not walking yet, but has started getting into everything...and "NO" means nothing to him but a fun game he can play.

I am feeling so lonely and helpless at the moment. Can anyone tell me of ways to meet people round these parts? It seems everyone is so established in their circles-it makes approaching people a little daunting.

I just needed to air my feelings...I got nobody to talk to..hope you all don't mind :burnout:

Welcome to D.B., Mellie, and Hang in there!

I think I pretty much understand how you feel. I too have a 2-year-old at home, with no helper, and a Cathay Pilot husband. Please feel free to call me on 27647260 or 95323675 and we can talk...

Sara.

As for how to meet people - I can only suggest joining playgroups, or just start talking to other mums. Children are a great icebreaker.

I can certainly get you going with mothers groups etc..... although in Kowloon at the moment, in serviced apartment, moving to midlevels in august, only a ferry trip away.........

Hello Mellie,

I've found a great place to take kids in DB is Kids Alive. Its a playgroup for kids up to 6 years along with their parent or helper. Its informal, with no set arrival / leave time, and only $35 a session ($200 per month).

Christina who runs it is really nice, you can call her on 2194 2550, or just drop by one day. The address is: 402 Marina Commercial Centre, Ministry of DB International Community Church. Opening times: Tues-Fri: 9am-12noon and 2pm-5:30pm. Sat: 9am-12noon.
