New mums March '08

Hi All

Natalia Louise was born naturally at QMH on 3rd March at 8.48pm, weighing a healthy 3.2kg. We came home the next day and so far so good, although a little sleep deprived!

Hope you all have safe and healthy arrivals soon. I must admit sleeping without a 'bump' is so much easier!

Take care and keep us posted with any news of arrivals. Perhaps when we have all settled down again we could get together with our babies.

Hi everyone!

Baby Graham Reginald arrived by elective c-section on March 8 in great fighting form at 8 lbs 3 oz (!) and 52 cm. Just arrived home yesterday after a week at the Matilda Hospital.

I can't speak highly enough of the hospital or my OB Phlip Ho. It was such a fantastic experience, and I really really did not want to leave. Dr Ho lived up to his reputation and my recovery was super fast! I was able to get out of bed on the second morning and spent most of the rest of the time on my feet. (Which by the way is incredibly swollen! I am v grateful to have gone to the hospital in my Crocs - nothing else would have fit post-partum.)

Breastfeeding was a challenge but the hardest part seems to be over (other than the super-sore and partly chewed nipples) and Graham is feeding like a champ. I strongly recommend Lansinoh cream (I got mine at Mothercare - but they also sell it at B2B) which at least meant I didn't have cracked nipples. (To apply it immediately every time after bubs finishes feeding.)

Congratulations to Florence and Nic on the delivery of their babies. Good luck to Vivienne and Debbie and hopefully your babies will come very soon!

Once we are all settled, it'd be great to work out a time for a post-partum coffee get-together and swap birth stories with our babies in toll.

Edwina

Congratulations Nic and Edwina - all that waiting for you guys are finally over and now you are both with breastfeeding and nappy changing. Get as much sleep as possible ideally when your baby sleep that's when you can catch up.

Will keep you posted on the arrival of my baby - can't wait to sleep without a bump as it is taking a toll on my back.

Hi there,

Larissa arrived by natural delivery at QE on 17th March at 4.28am weighing at 6lb 5oz. She decided to meet the world 8 days earlier but not as keen as her brother who was born 13 days early.

Delivery this time round was not as daunting as the first and labour pain to delivery all under 5 hours. Did not need an episiotomy this time - only torn a little. Breastfeeding like Edwina - cracked nipples but worse as mine bled and the skin came off so had to resort to pumping until the heal - am a little disappointed but happy that I can still feed my girl breastmilk.

Have fun and treasure all those moments with your babies - they certainly do change in appearance very quickly within the first month.

Vivienne

Congrat Vivienne

let's meet up sometime next month w/our babies. btw will you be interested in baby massage class to be held at TKO in May?

cheers,
Florence

Great job, Vivienne, congratulations! Glad to hear that your delivery went smoothly and I guess you and Larissa are now settled back home again?

Sorry to hear about the nursing pains - I had assumed that BF is easier the second time round but I guess that's not always so? Anyway, you may still want to buy some Lansinoh so that when you resume nursing at the breast, you can give yourself some extra protection? I am also told that it helps if you rub a little bit of breastmilk on your nipple after each feed, which helps with the healing. (I do both - first the breastmilk and then after it dries, I rub on a bit of Lansinoh.)

Part of me wants Graham to grow a bit more so he is more robust and less fragile, while the only part knows I should treasure his newborn moments right now (and all those funny faces that he keeps pulling!). Owning a baby is so daunting and scary at times!

Vivenne,

Congratulations.. as I recall we have the some due date 25 th March.. I am still waiting for the little one. Went to the doctor said she is still very high up and not dropping we will have to induce her on the 29th if she still does not want to arrive as she is getting big.
I can't wait now!!!

Congratulations on the arrival of baby Katie! Hope everything is going well with your recovery. Take care, and be sure to get lots of rest yourself (when you can). Oh, and enjoy those newborn sleeping fests while they last - they are over WAY too quickly in my opinion. (We now creep around the house holding our breath, in order to prolong baby Graham's naptimes.)

Congrat to baby Katie & Massage class at TKO

welcome to the world! you are such a big tall girl...no wonder mommy needs to go thru emergency c-section...

cheers,
Florence

Florence,

I live out in Tung Chung just want to know which stop I get off on the MTR and is it easy to get to your place from the MTR station. If it is I would be interested and how many classes are there?

Congratulations cxflygirl on the arrival of your newborn girl. Hope all is well and you are enjoying motherhood.

I think most of you here on this forum are first time mums whilst I am a second time mum. 20mth old toddler is ok with his little sister at most times but do cling onto either my or my hubby when she cries - I guess this is jealously eh?

Edwina - I am able to breastfeed well and it is so much easier without having to pump in advance and warm the milk up when my baby is screaming with hunger. No more cracked or sore nipples!

Thanks bbvv really enjoying it at the moment but find breastfeeding a bit difficult. When I brought her home I started expressing and feeding via a bottle of course when I told my doctor he was shocked. I think partly i knew how much I was feeding her after yesterday i started putting her back on the breast she only feeds max 20 mins or sometimes only 10 mins.. hard to know what the norm is. Reading contented little baby book and it said you should try feeding 30 min I cant as she just falls asleep.

At the moment I have a chinese confinement nanny who is helping during the day and that has been useful so that I can get some rest.

Is anyone finding feeding difficult?

Vivienne - that's great, so glad to hear that your poor nipples have recovered and that you are breastfeeding well. It's just the initial stage that's so teeth-gritting, isn't it? Once the nursing routine is established (for me, it was around the 4 week mark), then bubs can latch any which way and it doesn't seem to hurt. (Mine also has this naughty habit of twisting his head with nipple in mouth when he's almost done so it's stretched like elastic! And even though it looks nasty, even that doesn't hurt!!)

Cxflygirl - I don't think everyone needs to nurse for 30 mins. It depends on how fast your let-down is and how fast your milk flows, and of course how fast your baby can drink. With mine, he's quite a fast feeder and can drain my breast in about 10 mins. (I try to keep him at it for 15 mins if possible at each feed.) I'm told I have a quick letdown as it only takes me 10 mins to drain a breast while pumping (I can pump about 100 ml from one breast when it's full/engorged.)

I think the important thing is that your baby looks fulfilled after nursing - and of course, that she is gaining weight steadily.

Dear all March Moms, how are you all?

I gave birth to Evana on March 21st in Sanatorium via C-section. My water burst the day bfore, but I wasn't dilated at all, so after waiting for a whole day, we decided it was best that we pull her out via C. I totally understand those days of cracked, bleeding nipples.. but glad that my breasts are more used to the sucking and pumping.

Can't believe in 1 week, Evana will be 1 month. I followed this Chinese tradition of keeping the baby home, but would like to take her out now that she is 1 month. Does anyone fancy a baby-mommy gathering?

I'm game for a baby-mommy gathering! Would somewhere in Central/Soho work for everyone? Perhaps could meet in a Starbucks somewhere?
