New born baby HK PR | Proof of Chinese ethnicity?

We've got a newborn and are about to register her birth.

We are both in HK on working Visas, we are ethnically Chinese but neither of us were born in HK. We both hold Aussie passports. My mother holds a HK id card, but has not resided in HK for a number of years.

Will our girl automatically get HK PR? What documents can we provide to proove Chinese 'ethnicity'?

In March 2013 we will be able to apply for HK PR's as we would have lived in 7 years, will our child automatically receive her PR once we have applied for ours?

I will call Immigration soon - but any info provided will be helpful.

Your child will have right of abode as both of you are ethnically Chinese. It does not matter whether or not you have permanent residency in HK. You may be on employment visas but your ethnicity would still entitle her to right of abode.

Both my husband and I are Malaysian-born Chinese. We were in HK on employment visas when our daughter was born in HK. Both of us had to produce our birth certificates to the HK Registrar of Births to prove our Chinese ethnicity. This allowed our daughter to have a notation in her birth certificate that she has permanent right of abode in HK. Even if we left HK, our daughter could return to HK at a later age, to get her own HKID at age 11, and then to live and reside permanently in HK as an adult, unless she renounced it in the future.
 
Both husband & I had our respective original birth certificates with us, so it wasn't a problem producing them. If you don't, just ask the nearest HK Registry of Births whether copies, or certified copies are acceptable.
