Hi, my son's first birthday is coming up and I'm looking for a good party planning company that can take care of the arrangements, decorations, entertainment, party favors etc. Does anyone have any recommendations, esp ones that are expat or English friendly? Thanks a lot!

Carang - does it really matter who the party is for? For me, it's an occasion to celebrate and be grateful for everything I've learned and enjoyed in the past year, is all. :-)

howardcoombs - I'm sending you a PM. Thanks.

well, as far as i'm concerned it DOES matter who the party is for... are you having a bunch of your friends? or does your baby go to a playgroup, from which you will want to invite people with their kids? will you want to have it at a small, intimate restaurant or do you want to rent a grand ballroom in a hotel?

do you want catering for adults? or kids' food? do you want a children's entertainer? or would you prefer more sophisticated entertainment?

for my son's first birthday, we had a picnic in the park. no need for a party planner.... ordered take away food, baked my own cake (it's a tradition now that the kids are 5 & 7), bought a pinata for the older kids etc.

i buy all of the party treats in sham shui po (everyone that comes raves about my finds)....

i just did my two kids' party again (they are only 6 days apart)... KFC, homemade cake, rented a bouncy castle. kids had a ball... cost for the total parting, including 2 birthday kids? less than $3000... now, i know others who would spend that much on a venue rental alone... so, it really comes down to what is important to you....

without giving more details of what you are looking for, how do you expect people to offer ideas? you didn't even offer a budget idea....

Agree, why have you PM'd your budget? For my son's 1st birthday I had other babies from the mother/baby group I attended and their mothers. About 10 people, I baked a cake, he barely kept his eyes open until he blew the candle out! But I know others who invited dozens of people and had a huge do. Everyone's different so once we know what you have in mind you will get helpful replies!

Carang, what party treats did you get in Shamshuipo? I'm putting together the goodie bags for my son's 4th birthday next month and would like to add 1-2 more items to complete it.

(I remember getting some great arts&craft things back in my card-making days pre-child, but haven't been back since. Can't even remember the street name anymore...)

Thanks!

the one that goes over the best is a transparent rubber bouncy ball. it's about 2 inches in diameter. there is a little ball within the ball (looks almost like a snowglobe, with sparkles etc) which, when bounced, lights up with different flashing colours. there was also a fish or angry bird inside, if i remember correctly.... i think i paid about $7.5 each, because i bought 30 of them.

i also get funky rubbers, pencils/colours etc....none of which look cheap.

my usual budget per bag is about $12.5 or so and i'm always able to fill the bag with some carefully chosen items.

Wow those sound great! (Esp the ball idea, which works for boys and girls.) Can you tell me the street name in Shamshuipo? Thanks!

(Unfortunately I'm way over $12! Son is into Chuggington right now so I ended up ordering all the party ware from amazon uk and paying a mint for shipping!)

my girl is princess everything, my son is ben 10/transformer everything.... but i just got a bunch of cool things not following any of the "themes" for their bags. the kids loved them!

if you stand with your back at dragon centre and walk towards golden centre... walk to the far side of golden centre and then down that street.... fuk wing street (i think it is)....

Thanks, Carang! I'm going to try to head down there this weekend for a look around!

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack OP's thread...back to the subject, not sure how fancy you want the party or perhaps you're too busy, but I've always found pleasure/satisfaction arranging my son's birthdays. Even if you intend to outsource, you may want to save some of the planning for yourself.

i also enjoy planning my kids' birthdays...i wasn't being critical of the OP (which i think she thought i was)... i just can't imagine having a party planner for a kid's first birthday...but then again, i planned my own wedding, too. couldn't imagine outsourcing that to someone else.

wow, i'm checking this post after weeks and am shocked to see so many reprisals, all because i asked for the contacts of some party planners! who would've guessed?

i'm so glad Carang that you are able to plan wonderful birthdays for your kids. keep it up!

satay sue - why have i PM'd my budget? that's a strange question. i didn't PM to hide my budget. i wanted to have a one-on-one conversation with the person who wanted more specific information for me. why such animosity?

anyway, thanks for the all the comments. plans for my son's birthday are well under way and i will no longer need any ideas.

i don't think anyone was meaning to offer up reprisals. i'm sure we are all sorry that it was interpreted that way.

Yes, definitely second what Carang said. And thanks to this thread, I managed to bag some really neat stuff for my son's goodie bags (including a cool invisible pen equipped with a UV light for reading secret msgs!).Thanks again for the suggestions, Carang!

Hi Rumnyc

Did you finally find your party planner? Would you recommend them to me? I would like to host 1st birthday for my son at the end of May. I don't have a venue planned either. Hope the party planner can help. It will be an event FOR both parents and the baby/ toddler to have fun. Kids can have fun and we can have a glass. I do not want to have it in wise kids, my gym, kinder music etc .....

I was thinking bar section of Isola IFC where parents can have snacks and drink while the kids can relax in the sofa or walk outside . My son and others around 12 - 18 months are not interested in toys but they like exploration!

As our club membership (like AMC and Amercian Club is not coming along yet or by next month). And LRC do not allow helpers to come along. We can't host it there..

Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
Rdgs, Elaine
