My baby is borned with six fingures instead of five..! I need to know what to do and need hnoest answer is this a sign for a mental defect or something like that or what?

hi andre

i have seen lots of people with 6 fingers.not only on both their hands but also on their feet.they are absolutely fine both mentally and physically.
one of my professors at college had 6 fingers and was considered to be the smartest .
So i really dont think u need to worry abt it.
all the same do talk to paed for ur comfort since it will be professional facts.

Sometimes it is due to genetics. But well, it is an ADD rather than Minus. Your baby is absolutely normal. Don't worry abt it. If you really uncomfortable with it, you can consider to have it remove. But again, do consult your paed for professional advise.

My friend's daughter was born with 12 fingers, 6 on each hand. When she's about 9 mths old, she had a minor surgery to have them removed. They had to remove the outer fingers, as they're only mass of flesh - no nerves or bones, I was told. After the removal surgery, now she has to go for a therapy once a week, so that she gets used to using her other (inner) thumbs to grab things.
Apart from that, she looks abosutely fine to me.

Hope this brings you a peace of mind.

Just to let you know, in some cultures, an extra finger is thught to be a sign of good luck in the life of the child.

But I would say - best consult your pedia - if the finger has nerves and all, might be better to just let it be. If it does not have nerves and will not affect the function of the other fingers, perhaps you can consider removal to avoid the child being teased or getting a complex abou it later.
