Hi all... We are currently house sitting for some friends while they are away on holiday for a few weeks, and today it seems like everything started going wrong with their things. The most annoying thing, at the moment, though, is that their internet is only working with HK websites, but not any others. I.e. I can not access MSN, hotmail, yahoo, new york times etc etc etc. But any website based in HK comes up ok. Also, their NOW Broadband (tv) has suddenly stopped working as well. I don't know if their tv and internet are connected somehow and that's why they both stopped working at the same time...

Our friends said we could call them if we needed help w/ anything, but I really hate to bother them on their holiday. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Or have any idea why it might be happening?

Thanks!

earthquake

Hi,

very simple and nothing that anyone can do anything about. The earthquake in Taiwan knocked undersea cables, affecting particularly badly PCCW, but generally affecting anything that has to come into HK. That is why local is fine, but anything routed elsewhere doesn't work. May take time to fix, see the scmp or bbc news websites, both work for me.

Hope that explains it.

Haha, I didn't even know there was an earthquake. Thanks so much for the quick answer, I really appreciate it! I'm glad I didn't call my friends! :)

have no prob getting geobaby... but geoexpat is taking FOREVER.... if i'm lucky...hope it's up and running soon!!
(hope you all had a great holiday too!)

carang : Geobaby is hosted on our server in Cyberport which is why its functioning normally. GeoExpat is in the US and is affected by the earthquake related failures
