HI All
I am very new in Hong kong ,Me and my husband just relocated from Singapore only 2 months and just found out that I am pregnant 7 weeks.
I went first appointment with DR Coral and she manage to get the St paul for my deliver (my due is first week of Jan 2012) her first appointment is fine but total bill was 2,8000 (consult+blood test+4Dscan+vitamins) not sure if this is normal price because we don't have insurance and after we check her deliver cost she charge as for private room about 50K and still other expense daily add on.
Can anyone advise if this is the same cost that you are paying or she a bit expensive
or anyone know other doctor who delivery in St Paul and is he or she could be cheaper than DR Coral. however we also think if this is the first child and if we no other choice then we should continue with her
please share what your experience
Thank you a lot

i'm thinking the blood test might have made up the bulk of your payment. when i check with my doctor the fee is normally around 1700 which includes consultation and scan (800 for consult, 900 for scan)vitamins should only come to around 100...i'd go to her again -you shouldn't be getting blood tests each time so the cost should only go lower for the next sessions.

I think you should get a break down of the fees then it is easier to compare? Lesiefu is right, the next bill should be lower.

Are you both Singaporean? Well, I'm a Singaporean too. A bit lost touch of what's happening at home. Have a baby here in HK last year and she's nearly 8 months now.

im singaporean :)
why do u need 4d scan?
yes blood test costs most of the bill. some tests are unnecessary, do be sure to ask your doc what scan she is doing before committing. and ask her if it's necessary. i did this with my gynae who was pushing us to do all kinds of scans.

you could go through the public system and the entire pregnancy AND delivery will set you back about $1000...

HI Carang
Yes ,I wanted too but his feel that private service should be better ,anyway I already done deposited for St Paul
thank a lot

Your OB costs about the same as mine. However, there are ways to save money. If you don't need a scan at an appointment, don't get one. You don't need a scan at every single check-up but some docs do it automatically. I registered in the public system and had some thing done publicly (i.e. blood tests & 20 week scan. They also do the test for Downs but I opted out). I stretched out my appointments so I'm not going as frequently as the doc suggested since I'm low risk. My doc was fine with all this. It's kind of a drop in the bucket when it's all added up but it's better than nothing.

Oh, I overlook what you wrote. You don't really need 4D scan. 3D is enough. Also, appointments every 2 weeks is too frequent. I'm not consider extremely high risk but is over 30 and had a miscarriage before. I think I visit like 3 weeks or once a month?

Since you already pay deposit at St Paul now all you need to do is to find a Gynae that deliver at St Paul and you're comfortable with.

My hubby is from Hong Kong and I guess I'm going to stay here for a couple more years. Might consider to go back when my baby starts kindergarten.

I am seeing Dr Patrick Chan in Central.

I miss the food back home so much. Also, hubby and I just back from Bangkok (I've got local friends there) and I feel the food there closer to home then HK. :(

Good luck in your pregnancy. Anything, feel free to let us know. :)

For frequency of visits, I went once every 2 weeks. Then from week 13 until week 32 or 33 is was once a month then it went back to more frequent.

I've seen 2 ob/gyns in central now and the fees have been:

Doc 1: 1,000 consultation, 1,000 scan, 3,700 for 6 week blood work tests, but 2nd appointment no bloodwork needed
Doc 2: 1050 consultation including scan

Good luck with your delivery! You may want to read some other posts here and on other websites about St. Paul's to help you prepare for the birth. I've found this site really helpful to uncover some issues I've never even considered...

Hi

I m a Singaporean n my hubby is local. Been here for a while n had a baby 30 months ago.

Private n public system here can be very different in cost. My doctor fee cost about the same as yours.

Btw, if u do need any help feel free to let me know. You can email me at [email protected]

My doctor charges about HK $1000 per check-up and scan.
But be sure to ask in advance if treatments are necessary. Some women want EVERYTHING done. Others don't, or are watching their budgets.
A 4D scan when you're only 7 weeks seems a little much -- not much you can see at that point, anyway.
I'm 6+ months now, and I've only had one 4D scan. And the nice nurses asked me in advance if I wanted to spend the extra money.
Otherwise, it's just been 3D scans.
If it's a good doctor, the nurses at the front desk should be able to provide you with a price-list breakdown.

would agree with gracey - you can always ask the nurses for the price list - in fact you could call and inquire over the phone before going. for my 3 pregnancies - i've only always one monthly appt and scanned each time - according to my doctor though i was not high risk, he had to make sure the "stats" were clear and good ...not 4D each time though, depended on the nature of the scan so sometimes 3D was good enough. the bill came to 1500 (800 for consultation and 700 for scan)

Price Lists

I found price lists notoriously unreliable. You'll actually need to ask how much you'll be charged for a particular visit. My bill came out to be twice as much as quoted, because I had a "long" consultation instead of a "short" one, whatever that means. I guess as long as you're able to expense the bills under your employer's health plan, it won't hurt, but having had a child under the Hong Kong private system and the public system, I can unequivocally say that the public experience is so much better - more parent/child centered, more up-to-date treatment and no unpleasant financial surprises.

Hi 'Readytobemummy' just to let you know that a few of us mummies to be are meeting a OOlah (1 Bridges Street) on Sunday 12th at 9.15am. Feel free to come and join us if you want.

Also, i moved over from Singapore too almost 1 year ago. I miss it too, but i'm having my December baby in HK. In answer to your original question, you can have your baby delivered for very cheap using the public system (which is pretty good), or the private system (which largely varies in prices, so you would need to research different prices charged by OB GYNs and hospitals.

Hopefully see you on Sunday where we can chat about it in more detail. Other mummies to be are most welcome to join us on Sunday too.

My first trimester, I went all the time for scans. But I had a host of medical problems and was deemed high risk. I'm sure I was an exception. Also I think I was seeing a rather anxious doctor.
After I switched to a more moderate doctor and safely entered the 2nd trimester, I went back to the normal once a month.
May I ask who your doctor is?
