I've been trying to find a chinese "pui yuet" (women who take care of you and baby and make those good for soups) I guess i started to look for one quite late b'c the ones that my friends have recommended for me have already been reserved. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Pui Yuet

Hi Avi,

I got a very experienced lady referred by the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (Pui Yuet Section) for the 1st 2 mths after the arrival of the baby. However she is fully booked till Feb 2005.

I did tried to secure one thru the Methodist before, however I found the lady referred by them not very experienced thru interview.

Give the HKCTU a call and ask them to refer an experienced lady for you. The rates are set by HKCTU and reasonable, but if you want a particular Pui Yuet lady thru peronal referral (not thru HKCTU), then the individual Pui Yuet lady is free to set her fee schedule.

HKCTU Tel:27708668

Good Luck

Thanks HXM. I will give them a ring. It's been more difficult than I thought since this year is supposed to be a good year for anything...everyone seems to be having babies.

Do these ladies typically speak only Cantonese? I'm also looking for one for May 2005 and am concerned about the language issue.
Thanks for all your help!

Hi Cindee,

As far as I know they are all local Chinese, but some do speak acceptable English, the one I had can speak simple English to my hubby, although I had no problem with Cantonese.

You may try to specify your language requirements and see what they come up with.

I also heard from my Pui Yuet that she know of someone among their cicle that specialise in working in English speaking families.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck

Hi Cindee,

The only advice i can give you is to book one early. I have quite a few referals from my friend and they have already been booked up.

Hi HXM,

My due date is February 9, and I'm starting to look for a Pui Yuet. I was wondering if yours would be available since you seem quite pleased with her. I tried to send you an email, but was unsuccessful. Would you be able to send me her details via a PM? Thank you!

Hi HXM,

I am also looking for a Pui Yuet, my baby is due mid-Feb. 2005. I would love to get the contact number for the lady you mentioned.

Cheers
Annie

hmmmmm, not much info about what the centre does. I had a lady from the methodist centre, and frankly the standards are erractic. I have seen one who worked for my friend and she is very good, however, the one I took on ( because the original one backed out last minute) was only so so. She 's a nice lady but simply didn't have enough experience. I am currently taking one on as a nanny, though she is going back to work as a confinement lady soon, I can double check with her and PC details iof anyone is interested. She has around 20 years experience.

How much are the rates now?

I've heard of one that stays overnight. Cost was 18k per month. The mother booked her for 3 months!

rates are higher now than when I delivered 6 months ago - but 18k for overnight isn't that bad. I have heard of those asking for 23k. I had my pui yuet for 2.5 months also, I thnk the general tendency now is to keep them for more than 1 month.
