Nanny dies protecting her ward from a bus

Very sad story, but it seems she is being portrayed as a Martyr here which may or may not be the case. Maybe she was the one who disobeyed traffic rules and got both herself and the boy in harms way. This news website is in the Philippines I believe??? I see so many Helpers jay walking with kids by their side all the time.

Jeez, I think until we do hear the full story we could at least give the poor woman the benefit of the doubt and not cast aspersions.

It does sound sad... but it's strange that a Google search only brings up reports from Pinoy news sources (all repeating the same details - so all essentially one source). No story in the The Standard or SCMP.

That either tells me that (a) it's not a true story, or (b) the Hong Kong newspapers are uninterested in a story about a Filipino heroine. Hmmmmmm....

I saw an article about this accident this week in the newspaper, probably the Standard. I just remember the maid was 31 yo, and the boy was fine.

Actually the driver of the bus was arrested for dangerous driving.

The story was in the HK government's news site but it didn't mention she was Filipino. My helper told me she had heard the story but it wasn't until I saw the papers from the Philippines that I saw something confirming that. I didn't see the story in the Standard though but sometimes I don't get the paper.

I heard that she was in the pedestrian lane, so I don't think she was disobeying road laws...drivers here tend to be more at fault, especially some bus drivers here! They are DANGEROUS and not always alert!

It's on Cable news, Cantonese of coz, the day or next it happened. If I remember correctly, they mentioned she's from philipines, the driver was in wrong not her nor the boy whom she's protecting.

I wasn't saying that she WAS the one who was at fault. I was saying it could be either ways and the outcome is tragic nevertheless. Sorry forgot to add that bus drivers here are extremely reckless too and break rules all the time. I feel sad for her and her family.

really sad news. I think i read one Chinese paper (The Apple Daily) that mentioned that she was protecting the kid.. both i think at least 2 other Chinese papers didn't mention about the fact that she was a heroine.
