Hi,
I have been reading through all the forums and posts on this site and find them very helpful but I have a few specific questions that I have not been able to find up-to-date answers to.
I am currently beginning my 27th week of pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy. So far everything has been going very well and easy. My husband is about to accept a job with a HK company and so we will be moving from NYC to HK around the time of my 32nd week. We don't know yet whether the company's insurance will cover my pregnancy. We are still looking into the details to see whether the insurance company will classify my pregnancy as a "pre-existing condition" and therefore deny coverage.
Has anyone had experience with changing insurance coverage during the last trimester of their pregnancy?
If our insurance does cover the pregnancy and delivery, can anyone give me information about how insurance coverage works in HK? Does the patient pay up front and then get reimbursed by the insurance company or does the insurance company pay directly to the doctor/hospital? Do doctors only accept certain insurance carriers? Do I have to pick a doctor based on my insurance carrier?
I have been researching and reading everyone's comments about specific doctors on this website but am wondering about the doctors' availability. Many of these threads make it sound like you can't get any services if you haven't booked everything well in advance. What happens when people move to HK in their last trimester and don't have an ID card? Everyone keeps talking about how you have to have your delivery date booked in advance at a hospital but what happens if I won't be able to even make an appointment with an OB/GYN until my 31st week?
Thank you in advance for any advice/clarifications any of you can provide. I really appreciate all of your thoughts!
