Hi everybody, my husband and I are moving to HK in July and expecting our first baby in early September. We are looking for a good doctor to deliver our baby, any recommendations would really help.

Congrats!

Will you be visiting HK before July? I would recommend doctors from Central Health and a visit with them if you are...

Central Health

Actually, whomever you decide to go with, you should contact them now to let them know that of your situation. If you are going private, you need to make the hospital booking asap cause rooms can get quite full. they do have quite a few doctors within that practice so you shoud be able to get a booking, but you really need to act fast otherwise your choices will be limited.

Dr Sally Ferguson with OT & P is good too

OT&P

good luck with everything! :)

Hi

I'm due in early Sept. and am using Patrick Chan - a very patient and understanding man. He has never rushed me through any of my appts. and the waiting time is reasonable. You can find his number on the Gynae listing of this website.

Also, come and join us for Mothers Group when you arrive... we meet at least once a month for tea or dinner. There's lots of members who can answer your questions about having a baby in HK.

Cheers!

Welcome!! I'm also due in September. There is a lot of choice out there - best to check your private medical insurance as they usually dont pay for antenatal / prenatal costs at the beginning. Check what they do pay for and what they dont. And then you make your doctor choice.

The other doctors who are popular seem to be Dr Alex Doo and Dr Philip Ho. I am about to have my second baby with Dr Ho and I really like him. Dr Ghosh is also very popular but was recently had a heart attack and will be off work for some time. If you go via Central Health, Lucy Lord is the lead Ob/gyn and is very popular, but Grace Cheung apparently has a gentler bedside manner. I think the previous posters have under-emphasised the need to get booked into a hospital asap. Especially at the Matilda and Adventist is gets booked up extremely quickly.

Thank you so much ladies. and would love to join the mothers group when I arrive and meet alot of you. Best of luck to all of you.

cheers!

If you'd like to join us this Wednesday (5th May) for dinner, let me know. We are going to Isola at 7:30 p.m. It's in the IFC Mall - entrance is next to Lane Crawford. There'll be about 20 mums due between July-Sept 2010.

Cheers!

Hi Sahroora,

I am due on 09 September and have just changed from Grace Cheung to Patrick Chan. I am much happier with him. Grace Cheung has been getting extremely busy (we waited over an hour with appointment!) and she has totally overlooked a medical condition I have to a point were my blood results were really poor - I was shocked!
Dr. Chan is very nice and calm and has been recommended by my doula, too.

@Quasimother

May I join the group for the next lunch?

Rabenreiss

Sure! But we are not meeting for lunch next.
We are meeting for tea at the Hyatt Tiffin Lounge on May 19 (Weds) at 3:30. This is the thread:

Hyatt Tea (May) Buffet

Or you can join the working mothers lunch on the 24th of May at 12:30

Working Mothers Lunch (May)

I'm with Patrick Chan too! Isn't he just great :lovedface I've never had to wait for my appt. I walk in at my appt time and am in his room within 5 minutes! And he's just so relaxed and always friendly.

Hi there, I'll be moving to HKG end of May. Would love to join the Mothers' Group too. Am expecting beginning of July.

We've not been given much notice in regards of the move, and certainly not much salary increase either. So, we're choosing to give birth in a public hospital. Any info on how to get registered at a local maternity clinic and hospital? Heard Queen Mary is the best. Do I have to be in it's "catchment area"?

Sharrie_T

Check the Due Date Clubs - Moms Due July-Sept 10 when you arrive for future events

Regarding Queen Mary:
Yes. You do have to live in a catchment area.

Good Luck with the move!

Sharrie, Welcome to HK. Have a read through this article on Pregnancy in HK. Once you get your HK ID card (temp card is find too) you will be able to register yourself for public care.

Hi Ladies,
Thank you for all your advice; it is so helpful. We will be arriving to Hong Kong end of June. Would love to meet up with you for tea/ gathering so please keep me posted of your meetings in July.

Hi, I've just been here for two weeks and am due in August. I had a it of shock on arrival when I realised that all the private hospitals are fully booked for August. September may well be the same so the quicker you get in touch with a doctor the better as they have links with the hospitals. I'm with Dr Stephenson 852 25377620. If you can't get into a private hospital you'll be accepted into a public one as long as you have your ID sorted so get onto that as soon as you get here.
Good luck.
Laura

Hang in there lauratyson, I think it often turns out that people Do get in to the private hospitals in the end, I know at least one person who got their confirmation at Matilda less than six weeks before they were due. I guess they will fit you in if they can as it's more money for them (call me an old cynic)!
