moses basket or not????

First time pregnancy!! and really don't know what i really need... Is a moses basket a necessity? Or should I just but a cot and use it from the offset?? Thank you in advance..
 
I like using a Moses basket in the early weeks as it's easier to move around than a cot. From my bedroom to the living room etc.
My kids have all been in their cots by about six weeks though so it's not necessarily worth forking out a lot of money for a brand new one.

And a lot of babies seem more secure in the basket rather than being in a big cot. (my kids didn't seem to mind too much one way or the other)

Certainly not necessary. But if your house is big or has multiple floors, it's handy to have so you can bring baby everywhere. Or if you have a dog like us, it's a good place to put the baby instead of just on blanket on the floor.
Our baby is 10 weeks and still fit, but if you have a big baby it wont last very long

I wasn't going to buy one because I had read others saying that it isn't worth the money as you only use it for a short period of time. But I was given a second hand one by a friend, and I am so glad we have it. I have used it every night for three months and probably will until my son grows out of it. If we have another child I'll buy another new one. I think it is well worth having.
 
As the others have said, certainly not a necessity but very nice to have especially if your house is larger. We loved ours and brought it into the the living room for daytime naps and the bedroom for night time, I feel like it lasted us around three months but can't remember exactly.
 
our kid sleeps in a moses basket right next to our bed. my wife swears on it as she barely has to get up during night to pick and feed him. it also helps me as i never wake up because my wife picks him up at the first sound, so he never really gets into the crying stage at all
 
I echo all of the above. We had a bassinet attachment as part of our stroller set (Quinny Buzz) so used it at the start but I would have been happy using the big cot and a sleep positioner (to keep baby on their back) from the outset.
 
On the subject, has anyone used the Bugaboo Bassinet or a similar stroller bassinet for sleeping during day and night for the first month or so. I don't want to waste more money on a bassinet since I have the Bugaboo, just wondering if anyone has done this? I'm a first time mom and I have heard it "might not be safe" but i never really know what might be a bit overcautious. I won't leave it on the stroller, I plan to get a stand that it will fit in.
 
yes, like those posted above it's totally not necessary to use a moses basket. With my first son, we borrowed one from a friend and used it on our ground floor so he could be with us (we had a two floor apt), but at night he slept in a crib in our bedroom since birth. With my 2nd one, we didn't want to buy one and he slept in the room next door in a crib . . .no problems with both.
 
Jada - we had the Quinny Buzz bassinet (I assume it is similar to the Bugaboo bassinet) which attaches to the Quinny Buzz stroller. We used it for the first 3 months for all of baby's sleeps at home. Never heard a concern about using it but I wouldn't use it for walks down the street as the baby is not secured in the bassinet and can bounce around which is not good. That is the only concern I have heard about using bassinet attachments with strollers.
 
Hi Starbucks 2 What is a sleep positioner? and where can you but it? It might be the best option for us and then we could skip moses basket all together..
