seems to me that 'mother nature' is not really a mother at all...there is no way she'd have put up with 6 weeks of constant vomiting and nausea!

Yes, I am feeling particularly fragile and sorry for myself right now. Am 7 weeks in and with my first had morning (or so-called morning) sickness 24/7 until week 14.

I don't think I can cope with it again......help.....any remedies that I may not have heard of or tried already (have done the dry biccies, ginger tea, salty crisps thing up to my eyeballs and nothing works!)

can't sleep, can't eat, can't even smell food or the inside of the fridge without retching.......help!!!!!

Ohhhhhhhh yes! i know what u mean..and how u feel...i went thru that hell for almost 4 months!
Nothn helped me either and was desperately lookn for tips which i never got.

i had "all day sickness" when i was pregnant with the first one. and it lasted till i was being wheeled in to labor room! apparently some women are just plain lucky ;-)

What helped was eating very small meals frequently - my doctor said that what causes the sickness sometimes is how the stomach is being pushed/made smaller by the expanding uterus and so you feel the urge to "retch"

I was also given acid tablets like tums to control the feeling of acidity.

but i still had terrible morning sickness... these things helped a bit though

Oh god, KatBoo!

I'm in week 6 too and I'm finding it so hard to deal with the constant nausea and sickness. I had to take the day off today because this week has been so bad and i'm supposed to have had a client lunch today. I thought I'd got out of it and now he wants to do it next week.

There has got to be something that will work. I know it will all be worth it at the end so I'll go through whatever but could really do with a little help along the way!

Dear Putput ...

I can feel your PAIN. I still remember my "all-day-sickness" with my daughter ... the only thing that helped me was eating saltine crackers and drinking ginger ale ... but it has to be REAL ginger in the ale. You can also try fresh ginger in hot water or tea. It also helps if you just avoid smelling food ... especially being cooked.

For the nausea or sea sickness ... you can try sea bands:

'The Sea-Band is a knitted elasticized wrist band, which operates by applying pressure on the Nei Kuan acupressure point on each wrist by means of a plastic stud. Because the bands do not use drugs, they do not cause any of the side effects associated with anti-nausea drugs and can be worn on each wrist whenever you feel nauseous.'

I bought mine at a drugstore in the USA ... so not sure if they sell them in Hong Kong!?!?!? But they really work. They don't take the nauseous completely away, but they do take enough of the edge off to get through the day!

ANY finally I will tell you what everyone told me … ‘morning’ sickness means your body is going through all the right hormonal changes and a sign that you baby is HEALTHY … don’t know if this is just the consolation prize … kinda like “it’s lucky if it rains on your wedding day” … but it got me through some of it! ALSO I really hope you are like me …. On EAXCTLY my 12th week it all DISAPEARED overnight ;)

GOOD LUCK!!!!

nothing helped me with my first and i lost over 20 lbs! i lost about 7 with my second. the difference to me, was that i specifically requested an anti-nausea medication with my second. it doesn't stop it completely but it does take the edge off...maybe you should go see your dr soon and ask for one!

good luck!

i agree with mickeymom....eating frequent meals helped me. i also had a lot of acid...i hear there is something on the market called preggo pops thats supposed to help with morning sickness and helps also during labor. i dont know if they sell it in HK. i bought a few packs for preparation for my #2 pregnancy. hang in there...

Chewing sugar free minty chewing gum helped me!

Also found that plenty of rest helped (easier said than done).

Small meals frequently as well - for me mainly bread! .. oh, and cucumber!

I also had the sea sickness bands - they helped a LOT - they take 30 mins to start to take effect and they really do help take the edge off things!

I findeating anything sour helps. Lemon with salt helps me. I feel neusea when hungry but don't really feel hungry if you know what i mean. Force myself to eat just to keep going helps.
I'm very sensitive to smell and still am even though I'm 20 weks pregnant. So living in central didn't help.
I'm just able to eat food properly last week when moved to Discovery Bay, away from the chinese cooking smell (no offense to Chinese friends out there).

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant now and the "morning" sickness symptoms arrived (argh!). I vomited the whole night (about five times) and lost 1 kg of weight. Ok, it might have been related to bad food (don't know what and bad luck for me ), but the nausea-feeling seems to be continuing.

I don't feel like eating, and I'm a bit concerned about the baby. How much food did you eat a day to keep on going? I take a supplement drink (Materna) every morning and try to drink water with lemon, and chew gum. I fortunately found out that they are selling sea-bands (http://www.sea-band.com/seaband.htm) at Watsons, so good luck for me finding them and I hope they work :)

p.s. I have to admit that I was really waiting for some symptoms and a feeling I was pregnant for real.. stupid me :eyesroll:

fresh ginger w/ some honey in hot water, small frequent meals/snacks and vitasoy malt soymilk helped me. good luck!

I agree with carang....i also requested my doc to give me anti nausea medication and i was also given maalox for acidity....
i suggest, when u go to ur doc next time u ask her abt these medication so that she can suggest best one for u...
good luck

I really sympathise, I'm on week 11 and I've been suffering since day 1 and am getting tired of it. Feel like life has stopped for a while - my biggest problem is movement, if I sit still or lie on my left life is better but that's not very practical, if I walk about 10 steps I feel awful. I tried all the supposed remedies - crackers, ginger tea, sleep, chewing gum etc but the thing I found really helped was going to see an acupuncturist. He was great, didn't use needles, but massaged my spine and used heat lamps on my back, it really worked. I go every 3 days, it takes about 10 mins and it does make a difference - he doesn't even mind if you're late, I found it a real struggle to get to the appointments in the morning. He also told me to drink hot ginger and lemon tea 3 or 4 times a day. Part of the problem with morning sickness is because your diaphragm is squashed as the babies move up from your pelvis. Anything that can helps to open up your diaphragm relieves the nausea - ginger ale, ginger tea, last visit he told me to start drinking cream soda.

If you want the details of the Acupuncturist I can give it to you, he's in Causeway Bay. You have to make an appointment by fax as he doesn't answer the phone but he'll call you back very quickly. He's treated 2 friends of mine with m/s, and it does take the edge off a little.

I'm into my 12th week now and I had really really bad morning sickness as well, and have lost a couple of pounds. I told my doc (Dr. Ghosh) this. I've been on Materna ever since I found out I was pregnant. He told me to come off them, apparently taking them too early on in the pregnancy may make the morning sickness worse, and then he told me to take just folic acid till a couple of weeks later. It's been less than a week, but the morning sickness is definately a bit better (fingers crossed !). So, I would suggest you tell your doc and see if he/she can help.
I also survived on ginger ale and ribeena & fizzy water plus fresh lime sodas. You can also buy ginger sweets in the traditional chinese shops that sells dried fruits and nuts.
Hope it gets better soon !

I'm newly pregnant after a frozen embryo transfer on 6 November... so I guess that makes me 5 and a half weeks pregnant. You'll want to hit me for saying this but I'm hoping to wake up each morning feeling sick and so far there's no sign. The sickness is a good indicator that your hormones are rising well. Do you think I'm worrying too early? Can you remember when your sickness started?

with my first it started the morning i got to 6 weeks. with my second it started about week 3.

i'm guessing you only have a few more days until you have a dr appt, then you'll find out for sure.

i'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks Cara. Got my appointment on Tuesday so I hope they'll test my hormone levels then as well as doing an ultrasound. When you say you had sickness at 6 weeks, is that 6 weeks from your last period or 6 weeks from conception?

Bozo - mine started at 8 weeks so it really depends. varies from woman to woman. they say that in general the nausea can start anytime from 5 to 10 weeks after day 1 of that cycle (so 2 weeks before ovulation). sorry to not be of more comfort, but it can really begin anytime. good news is that it typically doesn't last forever and usually is over by week 15-16 or so.
