Hi all,

my name Nadia, I currently live in Tseung Kwan O for almost 2 months.
I have a 6 months old daughter.
I really like to know about this neighborhood, the best pediatrician and all about vaccination in hong kong.
If anybody would like to share about all those things with me, I really grateful for it.

Hi Nadia, I am thinking about moving to TKO soon, I also have a 5.5 month baby boy and would love to make some friends there, where abouts you living? I am thinking about OS?
 
I've lived in Tseung Kwan O for 3 years. It's a pretty big area, so where you go for stuff would depend on where you live. Each MTR station has its own mall and people would tend to go to the nearest one for service.

About pediatricians, I think people would tend to go to the one in their area. I like in Tiu Keng Leng and there are a couple in the adjoining mall. I take my kids to Dr Hamilton Hui. He's experienced, though does tend to give a lot of medicines (but you can just skip what you dont need). His clinic is usually packed which means a long wait, but I guess that's for a reason. Next door is Dr Vincent Fu which is less crowded. I found the doctors in that clinic younger, and so for my kids stuck with Dr Hui.

I've also heard of a good doctor in Hang Hau (not a pediatrician but popular with kids anyway). If you live around there, can dig his name up for you.

In addition, some docs reccomend you vaccinate your kid for chicken pox and rotavirus.

I like living in Tseung Kwan O because there are a lot of non-crowded open spaces for the kids. There are loads of young families with kids here; I was amazed at the number of pregnant women I encountered, given that HK is supposed to have a low fertility rate. Most of the newer private estates have huge indoor playrooms and swimming pools, which is great for the kids given Hong Kong's unpredictable weather.
 
I've lived in TKO (itself) for 18 months and really like it. I agree with Charade, it's a really easy place to have young kids, it's easy to get around with a pushchair, there are a couple of nice little walks (when the air/weather is good) and my building has indoor/outdoor play areas that my son will be able to use when he's older.

The shopping centre below me ('The Edge') has started specialising in baby stuff. At the moment it's mainly overpriced baby clothes, but there's a nice bookshop selling nothing but English children's books and educational toys, and a BabysRUs and Mannings Baby (whatever that is) coming soon.

I've noticed a lot more foreigners around in the last few months, so hopefully we can set up a little TKO mummies group.

I'm following the HK vaccination schedule and getting them (free) at the Hang Hau MCHC, as well as rotavirus and chicken pox privately. We go to a pediatrician in Central because I find the small local clinics are far too quick to prescribe anti-biotics. I'd like a more local one, but when I tried the doctor in the clinic in my building it turned out he didn't have a medical degree (!!!!).

Oh good tip on the baby stuff in the Edge. I've been meaning to post in the TKO meetup thread, only I've been down with the dreaded flu. Will join when I have no bugs to pass on.

Whoa a doc without a medical degree? Is that possible in Hong Kong? I used to be wary of my doc's antibiotic prescriptions until I realised my kids colds inevitably go into the nasty greenish sticky variety that just won't go otherwise. But yeah, I am not entirely satisfied with the pediatrician choices around here - it drove me batty when my babies were infants and I did make trips to Central for second opinions now and then. One good thing about the docs here though is that they are open on weekends which is great for emergencies.

I am a stay at home mom with one baby boy aged 8 months living in Ocean Shores at Tiu Keng Leng with my husband. I am looking for another couple whom live in Tiu Keng Leng to exchange language , culture by sharing cooking,parenting.etc

And i also hope to let my kids to get exposed to the English speaking environment and therefore wonder if there are any English speaking families interested in.

Hi I arrived three weeks ago and have been busy organising all the paperwork and flat hunting. Finally found a flat in TKO and signed at the weekend. How is everyone doing? Hope we can arrange a meeting in a couple of weeks once I have furnished the flat and sorted a helper out. I work full time so things are pretty busy right now!
