Mind Out of the Way=Childbirth Is A Cinch

Okay, that's not exactly what this article is talking about but that's the thought that came to mind. I think that a lot of childbirth is simply mental--mind over matter. Your mental and emotional state can have a lot of impact on how your birth goes.

You know, in our grandmother's age, it was all the rage to almost completely knock the woman out and put them in a semi vegetative state during labor. Lots of our parents generation was delivered in a semi-comatose state. Since the muscles do all the work, as long as the part of the brain in control of basic muscle function is still working, the body can deliver without a conscious mind to "help" at all. I wonder though: did that mean the women didn't feel pain, or did it mean they just don't remember after?
