Matilda - Internet?

Another question about the Matilda, thanks for those who responded earlier. Do you know if there is Internet available? I've seen on their webpage a long time ago (I think) that they have dial-up. This seems a little shocking to me as I don't know anyplace in Hong Kong that still has dial-up. So I'm wondering if you can perhaps pick up wireless from other sources? Or if my information is just out of date?

Thanks!

I was in a private room and there was WIFI - worked great and we were able to skype everyone as the connection was fast. Not sure if it's the same deal with the other rooms. Best call Inty Ting in Matilda customers relations and she will be able to tell you for sure. Also have you done the Matilda tour yet? I believe they show you all the facilities etc.

WIFI is in every corner in Matilda Hospital, but you have to pay for it. The charge for last year is $250 per day, they have package deal of a week and a month, the longer you sign up for, the lower the rate per day. It's expensive (more expensive than Mandarin Oriental HK as I was told), I think you can also use Internet with the USB modem from other ISPs, that would be a cheaper choice.

I had it for free, at least didn't pay for it. Was also in a private room (2nd floor; surgery though). It's not a secure network though ...

how ridiculous! $250/day????? everytime i hear stuff like that, i'm even more glad i went to QMH...

i pay less than $250/month for wireless at home!

I agree Cara. My husband said that the hospital is probably paying $250 for internet for the whole hospital and then charging it out at $250 per patient! I was in a twin room so the internet was not included. Still, since I ended up paying $90K odd for my delivery (or at least my insurance paid for it) I'd have liked to have thought that they could have thrown in some free internet with the twin room package too!

did they charge you for things like toilet tissue and soap, like i've heard hospitals do in the USA?

i will admit that if i'd had insurance or a LOT of money, the comfort at hotel matilda would have been nice... but without either, i just can't get over what they are allowed to get away with! guess it's just a case of the rich (hospital) getting richer...

Apparently Matilda is non-profit whatever that means!

Didn't see itemised things like soap etc but will be included as part of the package I am sure. I do remember someone saying that everything is charged depending on what class of room you are in so cotton wool balls cost you more if you use them in a private room vs a shared room!

non-profit merely means that they "use" all of the money they earn. they can use it to "upgrade facilities" on staff etc... they just NEVER turn a profit.
