Mandarin + English school

we're checking international schools but they seem very full / with few openings... our son is 5 and must be enrolled this summer so we're a little desperate! On top of that, we're trying to get him into a school with strong teachings in both English and Mandarin. Any suggestions or thoughts here?:swoman

Our 4-5 year old is at SIS, which is strong in both English and Mandarin (simplified, not traditional characters). If you want strong Mandarin in traditional characters, only KCS offers that, but they're not so strong in English. What is the month/year of your son's birth? It's much easier getting into PY1 (equivalent to K2) than PY2 (equivalent of K3 in HK), which is much easier than getting into Primary 1. Brief interview in English or Mandarin for PY, but Primary entails a sit-down written examination in English, Chinese and Math. Let me know if you need more information.

Carang, MaYC, Mumofone, Twinsmammie and Yonge,

Thanks a lot for ur replies . I will check all the schools you mentioned above. Lots of researches!!!!!!!!

Yonge, my son was born on June,2005. He is 4 and half now. Guess it's the same age as your child......Simplified Chinese is ok for us coz we are thinking abt moving back to Singapore after 2,3 years. Also, i am a little bit confused abt which year i should apply for him? Primary 1 or K3? I know nothing about the Hong Kong school system. That really makes my panic....

Your son would attend Preparatory Year 2 (PY2) this fall if you're applying to SIS. That's the same as Kindergarten 1 in Singapore or Kindergarten 2 in Hong Kong. If you're planning on returning to Singapore, your son will have no trouble integrating with the curriculum back home as SIS in HK is administered by the MOE. In fact, it's the only SIS that is administered by the MOE.
