I am Malaysian Chinese and my daughter is 11 months old. I would like to meet up with Malaysian/Indonesian mothers who would like their children to speak Malay to form a Malay speaking Mother and baby group. In this group, we will try to speak Malay so that our children will have some exposure of this language. If you are interested, please email me at. Look forward to meeting you! We can go "makan makan"!!

Hi! I am a Chinese-Indonesian and I am interested in forming a playgroup to masak or makan but I am afraid there are stark differences between the Indonesian and Malay languages.
Where do you reside?

Saya tak pandai masak tetapi pandai makan.. haha!

Wow! You really caught me off guard! Had some difficulty understanding, though. My Bahasa Indonesia's not that fantastic. Was sent away to study when young and ended up taking Mandarin as second language. I dun think your Malay is not fluent. In fact, I think it's fluent...at least better than my Indonesian....I speak the pasaran variety to my parents. :)

Belcher's near the HKU, yah? Is the Malay restaurant you are referring to just below your apartment? Actually I dun quite nasi lemak but am okie with rendang but eating too much can really make me sick. I prefer tahu telur. Like you, I'm only good at eating and lousy at cooking. I live on Bisney Rd...Jalan Bisney..haha

Are you letting your daughter learn Malay? I dun know if I want my son to learn Indonesian cos my husband's not Indonesian. Besides, my son has not opportunity to speak cos my Indonesian's substandard and his daddy doesn't speak a word. Is your husband's Malaysian?

You really are a linguist! You must be a Hakka? Am currently not in HK...followed my husband home to visit my in-laws.

apa kabar?

Hi There!

Hi,
Am also Indo Chinese but been living in o/sea half of my time. Anyway, thought to ride on this posting while is still hot. :burnout:

In Bangkok now and will move to HK next year in Feb. Got 2 kids - none speak malay/indo. But my indo masih boleh lah... use to communicate with my Indo maid when I was in SGP.

Anyway, I hope to meet you gals when I'm in HK next year.

Btw, how is The Belcher's? Read the comment on the strong wind at The Belcher's. How convenience is the transport to go to Wanchai?

Ciao for now!

Hello Newbies, you can take bus no. 23 (to North Point) to Wan Chai. I am not sure about the mini bus though.

I really like Belcher's. Good facilities (indoor and outdoor swimming pool, gym, children playareas, etc), great supermarket (Wellcome, HSBC, restaurants, Mannings, 7/11, Pacific Coffee, etc) walking distance to a park and a library. There are 2 ParkNShops, 1 Wellcome, 1 Watson, 1 Mannings. and lots of other shops and restaurants in Kennedy Town. HKU main campus is about 10 minutes walking distance. There is a very good art museum, a Starbucks and a Chinese restaurant in the campus.

my god, never thou i could find some passionate malaysian/indonesian speaking moms online and here! im so thrilled to read this and would like to keep in touch too. im a malaysian chinese married to a hongkie with a 15mths old boy. from sabah and speaking hakka too :)
LETS MEET UP! i miss nasi lemak and rendang so badly :(((((

Hi Jane,

Yes, let's meet up! I am Malaysian Chinese, from Selangor, speaks Hakka, husband is English and have a 15 months old daughter. I have been to KK before, it's lovely! Which part of Sabah are you from? There is a Malaysian restaurant called "Sabah" in Wan Chai and Kennedy Town.

Happy Chinese New Year!

I went to the 'Sabah' for a couple of times but it doesnt fit my satisfaction at all .. i know it is the best that i know of :( Where did u stay in Sgor? I was in PJ ss11-ss2 area for almost 10yrs before i resided here. Im from Sandakan.

have u been meeting up with other malaysian?

PJ s 17 and s 14 near UM and Pantai Hill Park. I miss Sentosa wet market; Pasar malam at SS 2, Chao Yang and Bangsar; and big book shops like Kinokuniya, MPH and Popular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I know quite a few Malaysian mothers and may be we can meet up one day? I will send you email.

I haven't been to Sandakan but my ex housemate is from there. I was told that the wet market there is worth a visit, is it right? I would love to go there one day... to climb Mount KK, go to Danum Valley, Sipadan, Sg Kinabatangan and Orang Utan Sanctuary!!!!!!

Selamat pagi!
I never dreamed I would read a long conversation in Malay in HK! I'm Malaysian Chinese with extremely rusty Malay. Would love to meet up time permitting. Saya berkerja dan only have the weekends. I've a 28 month old and a 4 month old daughters.

How about this Saturday, 10am? I live in Pokfulam. You are welcome to come to my place and we can order delivery from "Sabah" or we can go to HKU which is about 5 to 10 minutes walk from my place. There are two Chinese restaurants and a Starbucks where the children can walk or run around at the outside area. Please email me at if you are interested. My daughter is 15 months now and she loves the lily pond in the campus.
