Macau with 2 year olds? Viable? Fun??

Hi everyone,

We're planning a day trip to Macau but not sure what to do with 28 month old twin toddlers... Any suggestion?

To do?
Where to eat?

I'm not a fan of Macau even for adults! The only way you'd get me to take my little ones there is if I was staying at the Westin and I didn't leave the hotel, just played with them in the pool, kids club etc. It's quite nice there (the hotel) but I'd never go to Macau for a day trip. Sorry!
 
aussiegal is right. we've been to the Westin and the Venetian with our 2 year old child, both times just stayed in the hotel and spent time in the swimming pool and the indoor playground(the new 1 in the Venetian is quite good). nothing much to do, relaxing holiday though.
 
another vote for the westin. it is a great family environment.
somebody famous - we are in similar circumstances to you - at one point i had four children under the ages of 2 yrs, 2 months....and i found the westin was our best bet for a family vacation. the green field for running, the pool, the kids club...it really was great and there is a nice spa as well!
 
Thanks for the advice. We are only going for the day and I think we'll check out Fisherman's Wharf and the old area around the church facade(forgotten it's name now).

If I get some good tips, I'll post back in this thread!!

(I quite like Macau so hope I do get some good tips!!!)
 
well, if you are going for the nice pools and playgrounds for kids, you don't really have to go to Macau. But if you are going to another city, it is great to explore (even with a 2-yr-old toddler).
1. The Ruins of St. Paul's is the signature spot of Macau. My son loves going up and down the stairs.
2. Venetians. would be great if they still have the gondola. my boy loved it, but not sure if they still have it now.
3. Great to go around the city as it is full of Portuguese culture and you just don't see this kind of colonial culture in HOng kOng.
4. The "Black Sand" Beach. As the name tells, the sand is black in color, and you just don't see this in Hong Kong.
5. Try the local and Portuguese food. Yum yum.

Explore the city as toddlers are curious too.
 
AH yes that's the name, the ruins, of course those steps would be marvellous for wearing them out!! Thanks Little Monster!! You made it all sound fun again!!! :thanks
 
I think the best option is Fisherman's Wharf. There are some kids' rides there. Some nice restaurants to relax. Nice place for the kids to run around. It's walking distance from the Ferry terminal.
 
My friends came from K.L and they went there last week with two boys 7 and 11. Non like it there except the pork chop bun they tried. The husband said spending over HK1K for few hours was just too much! But personally i love going there for a change, not often, maybe once in a year or two for some nice food and antique window shopping near The Ruins St Paul :)

Hi C,

We're going this Easter for 1 night, just to get out, do something different. My kids, incl. the twins, are fairly easy, happy to tag along, look around. We're taking them to lots of places, not necessarily the most interesting to them at this age, but they always find something nice to do and they're generally happy. It's just nice to be out as a family, have fun, some nice food, go to the pool, stroll through the old city, have a snack, nice lunch. We've done it in lots of countries, and again, they're fine. I haven't been yet, and I don't plan to go multiple times a year but it will be nice as a night out!

Mom2Sofie, you think like I do, we just go out and do things as a family.

The kids got so excited the one time we took them to Discovery Bay mostly about the ferry ride and we figured they would enjoy taking a ferry to Macau. A new place is somewhere different for us parents to be with them.

I personally think Fernado's is overrated....

Casinos are smelly in Macau as they don't have (apart from one small section at the Sands) any non-smoking areas. In fact the hotels are not non-smoking like HK and I find that quite gross, so not too inclined to take children there anyway, Fishermans Wharf and St. Pauls ruins, it will be for starters :)
 
Enjoy yourself! am sure you all will. by the way, you can go to the Macau tower as well. Great view, and the see-thru glass floor is breathtaking even to adults.
