Hi

I'm going to be moving to Park Island on Ma Wan mid August. I will 32 weeks pregnant when I arrive there with my husband. Are there any English speaking mums or mums to be there? It would be great to meet some new people and get some support.

Hi, My wife also have 19 weeks pregnant now and we are living in Park Island. Which Hospital are you going to delivery?

Hi!
Welcome to Park Island. I 've been living here for over 2 years, and I am now 10 weeks pregnant. Feel free to contact me.

Seems like Park Island is getting a popular place now! I've been living here for over 2 years and I have a 21 months son. Still remember how worried I was taking my newborn from the hospital...taking a taxi then shuttle bus, not knowing what to do if he cries :)

Hi Hagrid,

Was your son born naturally or by c-section?
How did you go to the hospital while you were going to give birth?

Hi hahasze,

My son was breech so I had a scheduled c-section. I was kinda glad that he did or I'll have to worry about changing transportation to a hospital faraway while in labor.

Does anyone want to buy any 2nd hand baby toys bikes, walk n play etc?

I have a big robust play area to sell and a sandpit if anyone is interested.

thanks for the contacts

Thanks for all the replies. I'd love to meet up with you at some time (will be around mid August after the summer hols.). I will be delivering naturally (hopefully) at Queen Mart's hospital in Pok Fu Lam. I'm a bit conerned about how far it is from Ma Wan but I've recieved such good care so far and I'm comfortable with the hospital so I don't really want to change. Anyone had similar experinces? I was particularly freaked when I heard someone delivered their baby on the Discovery Bay ferry last week!!
I may be up for buying baby stuff (alanrigg) but later. Still in the throws of moving, changing jobs, preparing for baby and finding an amah all at the same time (might as well get it all done at once!!!).

Has anyone flown late on in pregnancy? I'm returning from France when I am 31 weeks pregnant. BA are fine with me flying as long as I can get a letter from a French doctor saying I am fit to fly. I'm a bit dubious about the whole thing. I'm also having trouble getting a letter from a Hong Kong doctor (Tsan Yuk and Wan Chai say they wont do it). I'm perfectly fit and healthy so don't really get what the problem is. Advice gratefully recieved.

:baby:

Hi again!

Two years ago, my sister in law flew from Germany to Korea around the same time you are planning to return from France (i.e. around one month before the delivery, in order to deliver in Korea). Since she had a healthy pregnancy, it was not a problem at all for her, so I am hoping you will also be fine. But I think she had some problem because Lufthansa woudn't take her (even with a doctor's letter), but the Korean airline company did. So maybe you should first check with the airline companies.

P.S. Are you French? Well, I am Korean but spent almost half of my life in France.

Thanks for your advice. I've checked with British Airways and they will take me. It's just getting the letter I'm a little concerned with. I'm not French (English actually) but alot of our family live in France and we have a farmhouse there as well. Do you speak much French (mine is slow but hopefully improving). Do you know what the French medical system is like. I need to go for an antenatal check up while I am there and try to get a letter from a doctor to O.K me for flying.

Hi!
It's been quite along time since I saw a doctor in France, and I never went to see a gynecologist in France (I wa too young). But almost all the doctors I had in France were very friendly and caring, so I'm sure you'll be fine. As to the medical system there, I also think you'll have no big surprise if you live in Hong Kong because I think Hong Kong's medical system is much westernized (considering that many things are very different in Korea compared to both France and Hong Kong).
Also, in my opinion, you won't have any problem about getting a letter either, especially when you tell them you have to return home.
Finally, I used to be perfectly bilingual, but I haven't spoken French in years!

Gela

Thanks for your reassurance about France. We are off in about a week and a half and looking forward to the break. It would be great to meet up when I get back (if you want to). Do you work? I start maternity leave at the end of September.
Havea good summer :-)

Hi everyone. I also live in Park Island. It's funny about a year ago I put up a post to meet people living in PI and Hagrid replied and we've become good friends. My son is 20 months old but I am up for making new friends. So, if we can get a few people togather for coffee or cold drinks at coffee plus, that would be cool ;)

hi Daizy

Would love to meet up for coffee or something. I'm currently on summer holidays but will be moving into our new flat in PI August 8th. I'll be about 32 weeks pregnant. I'll give you a mail about then to see if you are still interested. Seems like there may be a few others as well (Hagrid, Gela). Happy holidays:banana:

Ma Wan meet up

Hi All

I'm back from my summer holidays and busily unpacking and sorting out my new life here in Ma Wan. Any one interested in meeting up for a drink or something? Still finding my way around here so I don't know where would be good. Any sggestions of venue and date/time? I'm still working at the moment so weekends would be better.

Nina

Welcome to Park Island!
I think Coffee Plus (between the ferry pier and Shell Piazza) would be a good place for a drink. As for the time, I am quite flexible since I don't work. See you soon.

Yeah I am up for meeting. Since weekends are good for you, how about August 19th or 20th? Its not like we have a whole lot of choices around Ma Wan so how about Coffee Plus?

ma wan meet up

How about saturday 19th of August? We've got a delivery that day but I'm sure Adrian (my husband) wouldn't mind waiting for him. Morning would probably be best though I am flexible. Say about 10 am at coffee plus. If that is a problem let me know with suggestions. Any one else that reads this ans wants to come is of course welcome. We are in the throws of trying to hire a domestic helper at the moment. Think we've found one but she has yet to accept our offer. If she does, do you knwo what paperwork I'm meant to fill out or anything?

Anyway, hope to see you both next saturday, 10am at coffee plus. :burnout:

I'd love to meet up but I'm going to host a birthday party for my son at home on the 19th, so I'll be busy with preparation in the morning. I'm available on the 20th but if you all are free on the 19th, I'll meet you next time then. BTW, there is a new cafe opened up in the village, opposite to the seafood restaurant. I haven't been there but heard it's not bad.
