Looking for PN or K1 for 18 months old

Hi we have recently moved to hk from uk with a 18 months old daughter. I have been told how crazy the hk schooling is as we r already late for applying for her nursery for this year.

We live in mong kok area. I would like her to go to a nursery this year ( ideally a full time one as i would like to go back to work)or if not would be k1 for next year. Can anyone suggest any good schools around mong kok/ Olympic area?

I would like her to study Chinese( both readying n writing) as well as English. international schools seems too expensive at the moment and they r not very concentrate on teaching Chinese? I have been looking on some local schools as well but I Really don't want her to be study too hard for exams or just to memories words all day . I am in such a dilemma that do not know what school to choose for her. If anyone here can shred some light would be so much appreciated . Thank you in advanced.
 
It's quite true that the education sys is quite crazy and there are long waiting lists to get into a kindy!

Apparently for most local schools if your child is born say between sep to dec, it is much harder to get a PN place because they would prefer to take older kids (born jan-aug).

I live in your area and my bub is also 18m, although we applied early but we only got two offers which are tutor time kowloon tong (suffolk road campus) and greenfield (olympic)

Maybe you can try them ring up to see if there are places available

Both of the above schools teach english and mandarin. Both are half day classes only.

Tutor time has no homework and most of the time is learning through playing. I heard from others that the kids love going there. Has outdoor and indoor play areas.

Greenfield is quite new, only has indoor play area. The teachers seem quite nice too.

Thank you for getting back to me . Both these kindies r good but the downfalls they r only for half day means i can't go back to work n they r bit out of my budget at the moment. R u planning to put ur baby through international primary school too?
 
From what I know, there aren't many pn which offer full day classes.
I m not intending mine to go to international primary, just can't afford it.
 
also, PN usually starts at 2 years of age, i believe.

Hi there,

We shifted to Hong Kong about a month and a half ago and My child, 2 and a half years old, attends playgroup classes at Greenfield. I would also have positive feedback about the preschool.
Meanwhile My son has got an offer from PIPS Kowloon and we were thinking of admitting him there. PIPS has offered us two options (a) pay Capital Levy or (b) buy a personal debenture of HKD 50,000. The school says that the debenture is fully refundable but it is nowhere written so. I was wondering if anyone has an experience in redeeming such a debenture at PIPS? was it fully refunded? or what were the deductions? Should we just trust the school's words for it? Any experience, whatsoever, please share...

Thanks for the replies. Is there anyone interested in local kindies oppose to international kindies here? Purely because I want my baby to have better Chinese n it's much cheaper! if yes what is the ones that u would suggest? Thanks again!
 
Thank you for your response, dear Rani. Yes, it is refundable. I was just worried that there are no hidden costs that could spring up at the time of redeeming.
 
Just wondering, is your child starting prenursery at PIPS from August? My daughter is starting playgroup from Aug but i did buy debenture for her prenursery hoping that she would get a priority in the waiting list.
