Dear all,

I just found out that I am pregnant and need to see a Gyn.
I have different recommendations but don't know now who's the right one.
It will be my first baby and I am very unexperienced in everything.
Has somebody experiences with Dr. Sally Ferguson or Dr.Arabinda Gosh?
These two have been recommended by friends.

Thanks a lot and looking forward to get your comment.

Hi. i just had my second baby and Sally Ferguson was my ob/gyn. I really like her. She was very matter of fact and i always felt confident in trusting her advice and experience. She's not a particularly hand holding 'hearts and flowers' dr - but she definitely puts your health and the health of your growing baby first and clearly explains the facts. I would definitely recommend her if you are after an excellent dr with a 'sensible' matter of fact approach.
Good luck. :flower:

I'm glad to have found this topic.

Hi Betty, like you I just found out that I am pregnant today and am looking for a gynae. We've just moved to HK about 4 months ago so am depending on recommendations on which doctor to go to.

VegemiteKid, do you know where's Dr Sally's clinic?

Thanks!!

Read in the SCMP a few months back that Dr. Ferguson was suspended from practicising at (I think Adventist) for assaulting a colleague there.

Well, I saw Dr Ghosh for my second child and he was wonderful. So nice when there was a problem with the baby's heart at 16wks and we thought we'd lose the pregnancy. Great at the birth. He has a reputation of being a C-section guy, but he's never mentioned the words C-section to me. I told him I wanted a natural birth. He let me have one. Drug-free. Episiotomy-free. Intervention-free.
He's really lovely, and I thought he was an excellent ob-gyn. Downside is that because he's so good, he's in demand and is always busy and you'll have to wait a while for your appts and they often get re-scheduled. But I think that's the case with a lot of the popular ob-gyns in any case.
He's at the Matilda and also part of Veritas Clinic in Bank of America Tower in Admiralty.

Betty HK & Pekkie,

Re: Dr Ferguson.

In my view, Sally was acting in the best interest of her patient, if you go back and read the account of the incident. It was in the SCMP and if Im not mistaken, posted on one of the threads on this site. Frankly, if I was her patient in that situation, I would have been nothing but thankful she acted in the manner that she did.

She is a wonderful doctor, and while I have not used her for this pregnancy, she was my OBGYN previously; I switched to have a doctor closer to my office because my job is very time intensive.

Everyone needs to make their own assessment on who they feel most comfortable with for their pregnancy, so I wont tell you that Dr Ferguson is definitely the doctor for you. But before you rule her out, you should get the full story on the Adventist incident. She also delivers at Mathilda, so as long as you're comfortable with the cost of private care, you may want to set up an appointment with her to see what you think for yourself.

That was how we interpreted that incident also. Doctor Ferguson is also happy to involve the husband, which some ob-gyns here are reluctant to do. Again, whichever you feel more comfortable with.
Dr. Ferguson is behind Immigration Tower in the Shui On Centre, 15th floor. Phone is 2824-9112.

Hi BettyHK and Pekkie!

I just found out I am pregnant last week too!!

Based on some of the old threads here i've narrowed down my list of ob gyns to Sally Ferguson, Lucy Lord and Anne Fang. Will start checking them out next week (feeling so incredibly exhausted right now! :)).
Let me know if you have anything further to share on any of them. Have you decided whether you will be delivering in a private or public hosiptal yet?

Sally Ferguson was a wonderful support to both me and my husband for our first and will be my ob/gyn for our second also. Appts are tricky as she's popular, but for us it was worth it. Great aftercare also. Totally agree with the SCMP thread comments above, patient care was foremost in her mind.

Hi, I would recommend Dr Joe Chan to you. He is very good and caring. He is definitely pro-natural, although I eventually need a C-section for baby's condition. My scar healed very well and can barely seen now, below my hair!!
I would definitely use him when I have my next one. His no. is 25233328.

What happened with Dr Sally Ferguson and the Adventist Hospital? I want a doctor who stands up for her patients. Does anyone know what happened? I googled the incident but couldn't find the story. And you have to be asubscrober to SCMP to read the article. TIA

think the basic story was she was anxious to get some medication for a patient and the pharmacist was asking her a few questions. She got impatient and shoved the pharmacist. Am sure she is a great doc, but being suspended at a hospital cos she could not control her temper at the time (granted that she said it was for emergency) seems to me that there are also lots of other good choices out there too.

Second Dr. Joe Chan, he was fantastic at the birth of my 2nd, natural birth, no epi, and I was amazed that I could barely feel any pain with the stitches. Plus he was at the hospital within 1/2 hour or so after we called him, that was at 4 am in the morning!

That's not an accurate picture of the story regarding Sally Ferguson AndreaY - you should ensure that what you post is factual.

She has openly said she regrets using force, but frankly if I were her patient I would be extremely grateful that the point was made with as much urgency as was necessary to avoid future, potentially fatal, problems.

As you will see from the below, someone had recently died of post partum haemorrhage in the hospital.

The doctor suspended from Hong Kong Adventist Hospital admitted she pushed a pharmacy technician a few times on his left shoulder - but she said she was not trying to hurt him. It had been done while emphasising a point, she said.

'I wasn't trying to hurt him. It was a point of emphasis kind of thing,' Sally Ferguson, a well-respected obstetrician-gynaecologist now banned from the hospital, said. 'I used the flat of my hand on his shoulder ... I admit I touched him and I have apologised.'

Dr Ferguson, who has more than 22 years' experience, told her side of the story at her Wan Chai office yesterday. She said that at about 2am on May 21, she was told a patient who had given birth two weeks earlier was 'bleeding heavily' at home. She told the woman to go to Adventist Hospital and she would meet her there.

Dr Ferguson phoned the hospital advising that the patient be given an intravenous drip and 'cross-match blood' - but when she arrived, there was no fluid going into the woman's IV and the patient had lost '1-2 litres of blood at home'.

Dr Ferguson said she 'put up the fluids' herself and then dashed to the maternity unit to obtain three different medicines to control the bleeding.

Afterwards, she asked the pharmacy technician for information about the drugs to make sure they were compatible with the IV fluid, and reminded him to restock the medicine she had taken from the maternity floor.

While examining the patient she discovered the drugs she collected from the maternity unit were missing. 'They had been taken away by the pharmacist [technician], so I went and banged on the pharmacy door because the door was shut.' She remembered saying: 'Bring me back the drugs.'

When the pharmacy technician opened the door, Dr Ferguson said she pushed the man's shoulder 'about three times', telling him: 'What do you think you're doing taking away these drugs - when I picked them up especially from the maternity unit? Somebody died of post-partum haemorrhage in this hospital in the last few months.'

Dr Ferguson said the incident was 'out of character'; she had never done anything like that before. 'Clearly what I did was unprofessional behaviour, but I was very upset because I was trying to organise the management of a serious post-partum haemorrhage.'

Excuse me for summerising! I am neither the reporter nor employee of the SCMP and am not going to quote the article verbatim. It is blatantly obvious that nothing I wrote on this thread is contradictory to the article factually.

I have no relationship with Dr. Ferguson, so I just state it as it is portrayed in the article. It may not be the picture of Dr. Ferguson as LeahH like to see since she knows her. Attacking me for giving a pretty accurate summary of the article will not change the fact that the kind Doc herself admitted that what she did then was unprofessional behaviour.

Dr. Ferguson's actions will be a comfort to many for looking after patients. On the flip side, or just me being cynical, being confrontational with one's colleagues may not lead to a very happy working team.

I am sure Dr. Ferguson is a very experienced and good doc as I have already expressly pointed out before, my point was just that there are also other excellent docs worth consideration.

I can highly recommend Dr Patrick Chan at 2522-2500. I had sally ferguson for my first and she was great, but she referred me to patrick for my 2nd as he is also a fertility specialist. I find that he is much more patient and seems to have lots of time to spend with you and DH. He always remembers both our names. I never feel rushed, and even if you don't need help with getting pg, he's a great ob/gyn. Plus he works through lunch times and after hours till abut 7pm in central, which is great if you work in the area.

I included the actual article so there would be no need for a 'summary' - factual or otherwise - enabling people to draw their own conclusions with the relevant details/context.

As Pooley says, Patrick Chan is also wonderful. Very patient and went to great lengths to explain everything in detail, only issue for me was that he suggested a C-section if the baby went over 8 pounds which seemed over cautious advice (baby was well above 8 pounds and a natural birth was no problem).

hi! I have been in HK for a yr and wanted know if anyone knows a gud OB for public hospital or specifically for Queen's Mary.
