Looking for a Doula

Hello,

My husband and I are new to HK and are pregnant! Just wondering if anyone has any info on locating a doula? Really needing the extra support!

Thank you.

Welcome to Hong Kong.

I can throughly recommend Hulda from Annerley Midwives. She has been our doula for our last tow babies and was absolutely fantastic, I can't praise her high enough.

During both labours she came up with advice that was just right. She is calm and very approachable. I also arrived heavily pregnant in Hong Kong, not knowing how the system worked and it was Hulda who explained everything to me; she was clear and obviously very well informed as she has worked here for a number of years. She is also well respected by the doctors. She certainly has a good relationship with Sally Ferguson who was my obgyn.

Thanks for the recommendation. If you don't mind me asking....did you use a private or public program for the birth? We are currently registered with the Queen Mary program and I'm wondering if they allow doula's to be present at the birth. There is a likelihood that I will not have any family here for the birth(husband has to leave HK periodically for his job) and this is our first child! I'll check out Annerely Midwives as well.

Thanks again!

QMH will only allow one other person there - if your husband won't be there you can choose 'a close female relative', so you probably want to tell them that your doula is just that, an aunty, perhaps... (although I'm sure they know her well, it's good to tell QM staff what they want to hear, I find).
