left breast preference?

This may sound a little strange..my son seems to latch on better on the left breast. When he is nursing from the right side he often bobs on and off this breast. I know there is milk, as I have checked and it is throughout the feed not just in the beginning or end....

any ideas....

thanks,

My son has always preferred the left breast. The milk ran better, his position was always better, and even I was more comfortable.

both of my kids preferred one side over the other. i think it's very common... just like most people prefer sleeping on one side instead of the other.

Mine too! Over time, it did hurt the supply of the right. I always nurse from the right first, and she would latch on for a short while and unlatch soon after. =( i suspect she gets most of her milk from the left. I used to worry about it, but as she seems fairly contented, I try not to think too much about supply issues...

my girl prefers the left too. Eventually the right has so little milk that I just simply fed on the left side only. It's normal

The baby bobbing is a normal behaviour as the baby tries to find the breast and latch on by himself. If the baby isn't comfortable for some reason they may do this during the feed - it is his way of readjusting himself - in the same way we fidget when we've been sitting in one place too long.

Try lending back while you feed hi on this side so that gravity works with your baby rather then against him when he bobs. The more you lend back the less you need to hold him and maybe he can get into a more comfortable position by himself.

Best wishes,
SARAH

mine prefers the right, the nurses suggested starting him on the left so he could get used to it and then giving him the side he likes. now he just latches on to both sides equally
