Lantern- mid autumn festival

if you keep your eyes open when you are out and about, you can't miss them.. they're everywhere.. and in all different shapes and designs...

i saw one the other day that looked like one of the cars from the movie by the same name...

I've seen them for sale along Queen's Rd West. I think its still a bit early. They'll be everywhere in the next couple of weeks and the hard part is choosing one. Last year D got one of Marty the Zebra, from the movie Madagascar. We went to a Mid-Autumn party and a little girl had all the characters. Thank goodness the store we went to only had the one.

My son wants to make one for school - it has to be handmade. I've no idea how to go about it...any suggestions ? The lanterns will be "lighted" by the teachers and hung up for display. What does that mean ? Are they going to actually put in candles in paper lanterns that have been made by kids ? Is that safe ?

scr... where are you?
i know how to make a couple of different kinds using the red lai see packets...

one is quite easy, the other a little more time consuming, but both look really nice. you can get the little fairy light to go inside if you have an old lantern at home(you just build the new one around the light)

I know you are in DB cara, I'm in Kwun Tong district. A long way off ! I don't have any old lanterns at home either :(

Can you super glue a tiny birthday candle to the base? If you have an old lantern can you remove the light thingy and glue it? I'm guessing here. I think I would leave it to the teacher to figure out.
