Kool-Aid

I would like to make some playdough for my 22 month old this weekend, following this instructions, and would like to know where I could find KoolAid or similar drink mix, to color my doughs.

Food coloring would be my second option, but those are not easily found either, right?... any idea?

Certainly no food colouring at our local park n shop. I tried looking for it. Found some natural food colour at Taste, Hang Hau in blue & red only

Cake supplies store should have plenty of food colouring. Where do you live or work? Maybe I can suggest some place for you?

Hmmmm....ive never had a problem finding food colouring in the baking section with the flavourings....ive got loads!

Thanks all! I just checked Marketplace, and they carry "McCormick Food Colors & Egg Dye" for around 45HKD. It contains 4 very small bottles of colors (Red, Yellow, Green & Blue) in a box. Is that a good price?

yep, that's about the right price. if you want other colours you have to mix them.

i use the colour for baking and making playdoh all the time.

I think $45 is a good price. I like complete Delite but I normally buy my stuffs at twinsco, a local cake supplies store coz they have cheaper options.

Homemade play dough

So I tried making the play dough last Sunday, and was a complete disaster. The dough was too sticky (also too elastic), and turned even stickier after I added the color. The salt didn't dissolve, so it wasn't smooth at all!

For you who make your own playdough, what ingredients do you use? I used that cheap plain flour from Wellcome, and I am wondering if it might be too high in gluten (therefore making the dough too elastic?)... and what about the salt?
