Kinder U?

Hello!

Would like to seek others' opinion on Kinder U (Causeway Bay). Thinking of enrolling my 5.5 month old baby in their program. We just moved to HK (from Singapore) about 2 weeks ago, so would appreciate honest and candid feedback!

Peace.

Hi Peace!

I am also a mother of a 5.5 months old and I am also from Singapore!
Currently also doing research on where to bring my baby girl to for music lesson!

I am looking at Baby Buddies and My Musicbox (at Tin Hau & Causeway Bay respectively). Thinking of doing a trial lesson this weekend.

An acquaintance at my building apt brings her boy to Baby Buddies and swears by it but the comments posted by user of this website thinks otherwise.

Also, I will be checking out some of the schools around Midlevels, Central where I stay.

Guess we just have to see it and judge for ourselves and there is really no short cut to having the best for our kid.

hi bonnieyeung, thanks for your reply. just a few questions:
1. is your child enjoying their program?
2. is the program meeting your expectations?

thanks in advance for your reply!

hi arwen!

thanks for your note. it seems that we have more in common -- we live in mid-levels too! would you be interested to meet up at some point?

cheers,
peace

Peace,

What's your objective for sending your child to KinderU ? Are you looking for a playgroup of some sort ?

hi adachan,

no, we're not planning to go to KinderU for a playgroup. i just happened to read about them on the net and thought their program seemed interesting.

peace.

Dear Peace,

I have signed up for trial lesson at Kindermusik this Sat at 11am for my girl.
They have Kindermusik in Singapore as well.
You may want to try it. Their no. is 25184840.

Also, I am on waiting list to go for trial lesson at My Musicbox. They dont do free trial so have to pay for a trial lesson at about HKD180.

Would love to meet up!
Just tell me where and when....
Oh, by the way, on "Where to meet" - anywhere that is further than Central is considered far for me....
on "When to meet" - I'm a working mum, so weekends will be good.

dear arwen,

i am a working mum too! it would be nice to compare notes and exchange stories.

how can i get in touch with you?

peace.

hello!

sent you a private mail with my contact details already!
I will tell you more about my session at Kindermusic this Sat!

hi arwen!

did not get any email from you on your contact details....

how was Kindermusik last saturday?

peace

Hi Peace,

I am not wild about that place (Kindermusic) but then again I have no basis for comparison as that was my 1st time attending such classes.
Maybe I was having very adult expectation of the place.

I am going to trial "My music Box" in Causeway Bay at 9.45am this Sunday.
Do you want to enrol your baby into this too?
We can then meet up there as well!

So what did you do last weekend?
I brought my girl to Repulse Bay for the Christmas Fair - fair was so so but we had a fun and relaxing evening by the beach.... air was so fresh and lots of open spaces.

Strange that you did not receive my private message.

sorry to be k-po.... Peace, please click at Private Messagging under your user menu in the page to check Arwen's msg for you.

Gals, we have been in touch with other moms from MY/SG - please feel free to join us by sending me your email addy and # in PMs.

taking advantage!

I've checked out A LOT of classes here in Hong Kong and it's actually NOT RARE to find that many of these "schools" are just out to make lots of $$$. So KinderU is just one of many. Along with KinderU, I would put My MusicBox, Little Gym, JW Tumbles, Little Prince, Wise Creative, Learning Plus, and a number of other centers under this same list. The quality is similar to other places, but they hassle you to join, poor customer service and management stinks.

Here's a simple suggestion for you all. Find out exactly who owns the school you wish to join. And find out their background. It's not hard to find out. If the owners are either former or current businessmen or some field that has nothing to do with education, then you know what they care about... $$$! Watch out, but also know that you can do a few checks to see if the place you are going to risk putting your child into is trustworthy and reliable.

In addition to checking the ownership, I would also check out how long the staff has worked there. For example, I've found that many of the teachers at the Victoria Kindergartens have been teaching for less than one year... surprised? well, don't be. When management is bad and the school is low quality, there will be high teacher turnover.

Hope that helps. You might want to consider Woodlands or Tutortime, but make sure you do your homework for those too. Of course, if you want to find out the hard way how bad a program can be, try KinderU, but don't blame anyone else except yourself when you get frustrated by the staff and management.

Kinder U is very money oriented. seems like they are mostly after money. Also, their philosopy is really too 'pressured' for a young baby. I tried several times and have decided that that is just not good for a baby.

My LO starts to go to KinderU when she was three months. I have to say, Thomas was a bit pushy and too "business" and $$$$ minded, but Betty is actually quite a nice woman and I think she have the passion in education.
I think the administartion staffs are very nice and my LO, now eight months even smile to them everytime. We are going to a mandarine class twice a week, my LO enjoy it very much and she even "sing" with the teacher. Ms. Lo have very nice character and is very good to babies. I also have been to classes with two other techers, they all are very nice too.
For me,I only been to My Gym, Kindermusic , gymboree and Panda Junction. I currently is sending my LO to My Gym,KinderU and a swimming lesson. My Gym is more physical but for some reason my LO cries everytime but love swimming.

i went for a trial class today at kinderU after seeing their ads here, and i'm familiar with Glenn doman style of teaching. I almost had a high blood with the staff. After the class, i want to enroll for the month, the receptionist said i have to pay one month deposit which is refundable (that's fine), then i have to buy the reading kit for $2,000+++, I said i already have it and she insist it's their policy for everybody. I mentioned my friend's baby who is there for a few months now and i know they didn't buy the kit. After a long argument, even checking my friend if she had bought the kit, she said it's okay. Later, she told me i have to pay 2 months deposit for july and august. I don't know if she is upset or doesn't know what's the payment policy.

Anyone enrolled here, how many months deposit did you pay? I end up not enrolling as the whole time, this lady is not accomodating at all. I will be moving house in July so i explain i cannot make it that month, and she said that their school is not a playgroup where i can just show up anytime.

There are lots of other schools. The reviews here is right, this is not a good place to go. Sorry.

I enrolled there in Sept of 2006. We paid one month deposit but didn't buy the kit, although they tried to sell me everything from the flashcards to the xylophone. I didn't like the attitude of the staff either. My friend also had an arguement with the staff. I ended up going for 2 months (finished the month of the deposit and gave the one month notice.

The lady told me i have to pay a total of almost 5k, including the kit.....You can buy the kit elsewhere at cheaper price, i got mine new for 1k only.

They also don't give receipt for trial class, the staff got the money and told me which room to go without the receipt.

Hi

We did the trial lesson at Kinder u. Our aim was for her son to interact with other kids. He will complete 7 months week. In hour they do words ,songs and some exercises. Our son enjoyed it. The part about learning I am not so sure, It is expensive about Hkd 250 per turn and if u fo 8 turns a months then about HKD 1750.00 a month. It is true when u meet the Hos they do come across as passionate about the program but at the same time that it is all about money making.

Earlier there was a thread about asking certain questions to the institute before enrolling your kids like asking how long have th teachers been teaching at the institute etc
