It has been a few years. . . but when my son was in K3, it seems that most of the kids and the school encouraged reading the Oxford Reading Tree series.
When both my children were in K3, they and their classmates were able to read books from the Oxford Reading Tree series. Some children were reading very simple sentences whereas others were reading stories with much more complex sentences. All normal within the wide range of abilities in a class.
