Baby girl is turning 1 at the end of this month, want to start taking her to playgroup for more social interaction and discipline training. Will take her to Little Academy for 'academic' class and another place for 'exercise' class. Would love to hear reviews of both places or recommendations of other places as well. Thanks.

Haven't been to either of these but can recommend Baby Buddies. Exercise, singing, free play and art/craft.

Never heard of Little Academy but interested to hear what kind of "academic" class are you anticipating for your 1 year old??

gladys, you may want to check out playgroups in discovery bay, they might be a little closer to tung chung... seems like you will be going quite a ways for an hour long class...

SB2, of course a 1 year old can't do any writing or composing or anything, but the idea is to let her start to get in touch with language in a fun way and to start picking up some phonics as they learn to speak. Thank you for recommending BB, I have been looking into that too, but the locations are a bit far.

Nina, Panda Junction has a lot of free play? I am looking for some group activities so baby can learn interacting with other kids and also disciplines like sharing, take turns, and tidy up after play. Am I asking too much or am I just looking at the wrong place?

Cara, is there any playgroup in DB? More information is very much appreciated!! It would be nice to have something closer to save the time and hassle of the trip!

there are TONS of playgroups in db. if you can find yourself a copy of the INSIDE DB magazine, they often list them.

i also run a playgroup in tsing yi, so there are options out there if you don't feel like trekking all the way into central/causeway bay.

Panda is structured so the first half is free play (in a great room with lots of stimulating things to play with, and lots of space for them to play in) and the second half is more structured (circle time, songs, activities etc). My son loves Panda (but each child is different!) and it's helped him socialise with other children. I think he picked up more 'social skills' like sharing, taking turns etc in his regular playgroup, which has longer sessions. Having said that, we've been teaching him these things at home on informal playdates as well. Good luck!

Panda Junction is great! Our son started going from 6 months until 18 months. The structure is great as it's free play for the first half, then structured music class during the 2nd half. It's a great mix of moms and helpers and the songs they sing, my son knows. The teachers are caring and high energy which is extremely important to us.

Cara, I got a copy of D'Magazine and there is no list of playgroups... Am I getting the wrong mag?

Mscheerful, can I join playgroup in Marina Club if I am not a resident of DB? How can I join it? Should I be a member first?

Thanks everyone for your input!

it used to be called INSIDE DB....i haven't lived there for a few years, so it may have changed name...

there is also a forum for db residents (dbforum.com) that you may be able to find more information on....
good luck!

ps> yes, i believe that anyone can join first & second friends...
