Just the delivery room ?

I'm so confused about hospitals here!! I've searched around on this forum, but I cannot find an answer. Can I just use a hospital delivery room? Unless something is wrong with my baby I will not be staying in a hospital for three days, so a package doesn't really fit my needs. Is it possible to simply deliver at a hospital (preferably on the West side of Hong Kong Island) without buying a package?

Yep - go public. They can't keep you. Queen Mary is Western HK Island.

If you want to go private, then your options (in this sense) are more limited.

i know a lady that stayed one night at QMH. she was having #4 so they let her go when she asked. they do encourage you to stay if it's your first so that they can solve any problems in the first critical hours.

if you go private, 3 days at matilda would NOT be a hardship... it's more like a 5* hotel than a hospital.

Wow, that was quick! Thanks.
So if I have a private doctor for pre-natal can I still deliver public? Any ball park as to what that would cost? I've found answers anywhere from $250 to $2500 or more so I'm totally confused.

Yes, you can do all your prenatal care privately with your own Dr and then go to a public hospital to deliver. Your hospital bill should be less than $1000. Prenatal care charges will depend on yr Dr. Approx $1000 a visit.

but remembering it will one of the hospitals on duty doctors delivering as private docs can't deliver in public hospitals.

I did the same thing with both my births.
Private antenatal care, then delivered at QMH for the 1st, PWH for the 2nd.

Unless you have complications, you may not even see a DR during delivery.
I saw a Dr for 5 mins during my 1st labour, then the midwives did the rest. Midwives only for my 2nd.

I had intended to leave after 12 hrs for my first but stayed 24, just because of the timing of the birth, and really just sleeping and feeding anyway.
Stayed 24 after my 2nd.

Matty did they say anything about you leaving early? It was a nightmare getting released in Canada. We pretty much ran out of there as soon as I thought they wouldn't call the cops on us.

Getting released from QMH the first time was easy.
I told the nurse I wanted to go home, and all I had to do was wait until the Dr's did rounds so that both me and the baby were given the all clear.
I called my husband and off we went.

The 2nd time at PWH there was abit more of a fuss.
They were concerned about weightloss in my BF baby (he was 4kg so not much danger of him fading away) so after a bit of discussion I was discharged on the condition that I bring him back the next day for a weight check.
They really didn't want to discharge me because he wasn't formula fed (bizarre I know) but in the end they couldn't keep me there if I wanted to go.
