It really depends on your child and what they are interested in. Personally, I think it's good to have a musical background. In choir, they'll learn how to read music, stay in tune, etc etc. I was in choirs all through my school years and I loved it. Not every child will, though. If your kid doesn't like singing, then yes, it will be "just another activity."
