Hey gals, can anyone tell me which doc has got higher pregnancy rates over IVF? I've just done IVF last month but failed, we want to try again but I want a good doc this time.

There's always Dr. Milton Leong, Dr. Alex Doo and Dr. Tay, which one is better? The first time freak us out, and we want to double make sure before we do it again.

How soon can I start the 2nd cycle? :thanks

You can do 2 cycles consecutively . No idea abouts Dr in HK . Generally speaking chances of all IVF is about the same. But you must really ask your dr what he or she is doing. Also if u have any issues do read up on the net and know your chances.

i am sorry to hear about your failed cycle. i had three, and remember the frustration.
we chose dr philip ho as our dr and we were very pleased with him and especially the clinic, hong kong sanitorium ivf centre. the embryologist and facilities there were top notch. while the dr is responsible for monitoring follicles, uterine levels and hormone levels, embryologists are responsible for icsi (if you have that done) recommending what to do with embryos, which to transfer...embryologists and the lab are very important. i would therefore recommend you go with any dr who works out of hk sanitorium.

i do believe though that dr ho has one of the highest success rates in the city.

as for is the usa any better? i would say it depends on your condition. if you have an unusual situation, there might be a clinic or dr that specialises in "your" issue.

your first ivf cycle, (unfairly, considering all the costs!) is often considered a test run, to see how you respond to the meds, how the embryos fertilised, even how your cervix responded to the catheter. second time round, there is more information on you and your body.

Sorry I have to disagree with that. I went to Dr Phillip Ho few years ago and had 2 failed IUIs. During the 2nd IUI, he was late for 3 hours (supposed to do the sperm transfer at around 6pm but he turned up at 9pm). I was in so much pain coz' he had to clamp down my uterus (sorry for too much info) which had become tense due to the stress and exhaustion from waiting. The result is of course "FAIL"! He did not even utter a word of apology to me and I just paid with so much hesitance before leaving his clinic not to mention I was close to tears. What bothered me was the nurse telling me if the doctor didn't turn up, she would have to do it for me!

It took me more than 2 years to recover from that bad experience and found my current doctor who helped me conceive through my first IVF cycle. So test run or not, I don't think that's necessary if the doctor is sincere and capable. My doctor performs IVF both at Sanatorium and at the Victory lab but I had mine done at the latter. So it all depends on the doctor not so much of the lab/centre.

I feel that you shd go and have a face to face talk with your choice of doctor and from there see if you have the confidence in him. When I made my choice of doctor, I was extremely comfortable with him. I believe that helped a lot in the success of my first IVF cycle. No one can tell you which doctor is better coz' only you yourself know. Before I decide on my current dr, I've heard so much about other drs too eg. Milton Leong, Derek Lo, Clement Ho but decided it's my choice after all so I want to meet the dr first.

Also, you cannot depend on the success rate as every case is different. It's not a guaranteed thing.

I also used Philip Ho and he was excellent - I am expecting my twins in a few months. I was lucky and my cycle worked first time. I went through the same process as Seb's Mum at the HK Sanatorium and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

w2bmom, that sounds like a terrible, terrible experience. that is really too bad. i am very glad to hear that you had success with your ivf.

bunbunh - i did want to point out that the difference between lab involvement in an iui and an ivf is considerable. in an iui, the lab is used for the washing of the sperm, and of course for the procedure.

in the ivf procedure, the lab is used for the harvesting, and the icsi, and then the observation, the assessment, the freezing and then the determining of the best quality embryos for the transfer, grading the embryos as well as recommendations to the doctor if it should be a two day transfer, if emergency icsi should be done if the eggs do not seem to be fertilizing as they should, if the embryos are progressing well enough that they could go to blastocyst. embryologists are heavily involved in the ivf process, which is why i believe a lab is very important when selecting a dr.

but w2bmom is very correct, statistics and success rates can be "skewed". you hear of clinics in the united states that have astounding success rates, and that is because they mainly accept patients under the age of 37, with male fertility issues or female blocked tubes.

finding a doctor you are comfortable with is important, no two ways about it though.
 
Thanks everyone :flower: , the problem with us is huge, I have blocked tubes, and hubby has got very low counts, so he has got his sperms frozen for future use. We had our first cycle done in Queen Mary, we trust the doc and everything, but like Seb's Dad said, it could be the lab......something which we've never thought of.... I had 12 good eggs but only 2 good embryos were good for the transfer, so now you know why we are stuck, we have no frozen embryos for the 2nd transfer, we must start the whole process from ground.

Not sure if the States has got better technologies/medications and all that, but we are based in HK now, it is very unlikely that we can do this in the States, considering the long flight and time needed. We just don't know what to do now. :rofl:
 
We too used Dr Ho and found him to be very good, although I can see that he may come across a little cold and impresonal. Fortunately for us IVF worked on the first cycle. We would use him again, however I'm not sure that I would then have him ongoing, and may choose to swap to an alternative obgyn. I have been a little disappointed at the support afterwards with regards obgyn. The IVF centre at the Sanitorium however were fantastic.

I tried to get details of success rates from different drs in HK beforehand, however wasn't able to. The IVF Centre also don't release these details. I know of others that have used Dr Doo, Dr Stevenson and Prof Haines (out of Shatin), all with varying levels of success. I think the most important thing is to work with a doctor that feels right for you, and meeting a selection beforehand may be the best thing. The peronality also has to be the right fit, along with the way they operate. It is a very emotional time.

I also went to Dr Philip Ho for my IVF last year and with God Blessing I was successful with my 1st cycle. Dr Ho was introduced to me by my friend who also had been successful in the IUI. Dr Ho is very experienced and I have no hestitation to recommend him. I trust his judgement and profession during the whole IVF process. His clinic manager Kelly is very caring and helpful. She is best nurse I have met so far. She would call me up to follow up the next day one time I had light bleeding in my early pregnanc. I had very good feeling with Dr Ho and Kelly.
