Heard that taking DHA pills (containing DHA & EPA) during breastfeeding period would raise the level of DHA in breastmilk, and so help bb's growth & development. The understanding is that DHA & EPA supplements would through the maternal body transform into additional DHA in breastmilk. Is this true?

Also heard that the best ratio of DHA & EPA for breastmilk is 4.5:1, but why DHA pills have like 14:1 ratio of DHA & EPA?

Would like to know more. Anyone have further information?
Thanks.

To me breast milk had all the D and H and A or A-Z for baby so i don't believe in adding this and that when b/f.

I took DHA supplements when pregnant and breastfeeding, and continue to take them as I don't eat any fish. Make sure it is a good quality one from a reputable source. Sorry, don't have an answer to your question about ratio of DHA to EPA.
