Is Raspberry Leaf really good for natural delivery?

I have heard that taking raspberry leaf supplement a few weeks before birth will make it easier. Has anyone tried it or any comments?

I'm a first time mom and I am really afraid of pain although I have opted for natural delivery. My due date is next week so I should start taking it now if it is really helpful!

:thanks

I didn?t use raspberry leaf tea for my pregnancies but I used it when I was a teenager for painful period pains. I think it helped but it might have been the placebo effect.

I have had four births. I found that the pain is bearable but I always got to the point where I was scared that if it got any worse I wouldn?t be able to cope, however, it never got any worse.

I found the transition stage the worse and found it really helpful for the midwife to remind me that I was in the transition stage and that soon it would all be over. In fact for my later births I wrote this in my birth plan so that I wouldn?t forget to remember to ask the midwife to remind me about the transition stage.

Good luck with everything,
Barb

My Dr recommends patients take it too. It's also supposed to help bring on labor.

Good luck!

is it a kind of tea to drink? How long should i take it? Where can I buy?

Rani, do you try it? please share with us... thank you

I bought some'pregnancy tea' in Bumps to Babes that has raspberry leaf in it. It's quite expensive but very nice!

Not sure if city super might do it as they have lots of herbal teas.

Happybilly - with my first I was really scared of the pain and am again this time. I had an epidural the first time and plan to do that again this time - it was fantastic.

Organic raspberry tea leaf can be bought Green Concepts Co Ltd at the basement of Luk Hoi Tong Building, 31, Queen's Road Central. I believe that it can also be bought at Bumps to Babes.

Here's an interesting article on the topic:

In a study carried out in Sydney, Australia, 192 first-time mums were given at random either a 1.2g raspberry leaf tablet or a placebo twice a day from 32 weeks of pregnancy. The herb had no harmful effects on mother or baby, and those women who had taken raspberry leaf tablets were found to have a shorter second stage of labour and a lower rate of forceps delivery (19.3% versus 30.4%). However, far more research is needed to confirm these results.

stimulating the nipple ( as vulgar as it sound) also help to bring on labour as it release the same type of chemical call oxytocin( the same as hospitals give to you) to induce labour.

As all might know, sex too. but i rather stay off that till after birth. lol:)
