Is it ok to give a 7 month old fruit puree everyday?

My now 2 year old was severely constipated when starting solids. I eliminated all of the "BRAT" foods and gave her prunes til it was coming out of her ears, but she was still constipated so badly that she would bleed with every BM. We ended up having to put her on an oral medication called lactulose which helped a lot. Lactolose is a sugar which is not able to be digested by the human body, so it stays inside the intestines and never enters the blood stream, making it one of the safest medications ever. We started with a very low dose and slowly increased it until we found the optimal volume for her. She was on it daily for a couple of months, then we slowly reduced it again. For her, it was a life saver. Constipation as bad as she had it can cause issues with being scared of BMs because of the pain, leading to further constipation and anxiety (and later difficulty potty training). I would recommend it for babies who do have severe constipation which cannot be controlled by a change of diet. It is better to treat the problems now rather than create larger problems in the future.

Oh my god, this is scary. I think i should consult a doctor before starting her on lactulose..Ive started giving her papaya from today because someone told me its very good for constipation. Im thinking ill see for a couple of days, if its yet the same ill go to the doctor before it gets any worse..
Thanks a lot nicolejoy..

Constipation is a very common issue with LOs -- we got thru it with hundreds and thousands of Papaya.
and make sure you avoid Mangoes which makes things worse.

Thank you howardcoombs and carang, will keep in mind. I was giving her banana. Today i gave her papaya and voila- potty time:)
It was hard but she didn't have to strain too much. Im quite relieved i must say. I hope it continues to get better. If it doesn't in the next couple of days ill take take her to the doctor..
A very BIG thank you to everyone:))

Also avoid rice, apples and toast (although apple juice is ok). You can do a search on foods which are constipating and foods which help relieve constipation. Also good are probiotics. And if it gets severe, please do take her to the doctor - the medication is simple and very safe (although hopefully it CAN be relieved by a change in diet)... I think some kids are just more prone to constipation than others though...

I know it's hard to watch, poor thing. We've all been there. :(
When she's straining, try a warm compress on her tummy (hot water bottle wrapped in a towel) gentle tummy massage in a circle, or lying her on her back and "circling" her legs. This helped with us.
I think all babies get it at some time. It will pass. (Ha! No pun intended).
Once my baby didn't poo for, like, a week. I was freaking out, but then she did and it was fine.
If you feel there is a serious medical problem, see a doctor though.

Nicolejoy thanks will keep in mind. Read your blog, madeline is such an angel:)) really loved her cross face..lol
God bless you both..
Gracey ive done all of that except the warm compress
Howardcoombs, could you tell me how much papaya can I give her in a day?
