Hi

My boy is 8 months old but whenever he seats he still cannot sit steadily. He always sway from left to right and I am wondering if its normal. I brought him for all his check up but the doctor never mention if there was anything wrong.

I am really concern because I thought most baby would be able to sit on their own with any help by this age.

:thanks

Jaz, in my doctor's booklet, it says that if the child does not sit independently by 9 months, talk to your Dr. Swaying doesn't seem like a problem, does he topple over? You could also teach him how to lean forward (while sitting) and put his hands down in front to maintain balance. Most likely it is nothing since each child is so different, but no harm in asking the dr about it to ease your mind.

jaz1311,

you can bring baby back to health clinic when he is 9 months old to check.
early 8 months could be still unstable, by 9 months should be okay.

My mum always tells me that I was unable to sit at 8 months but once I started around 8 1/2 months I crawled a little late but walked at a very 'normal' age. Try not to worry but maybe take him back in a month if he is still not doing it - just to be sure.

Thanks for all your reply. I will continue to monitor him and bring him to the doctor again when he is 9 months.
