Is heater needed for baby in hk?

Hi! This is going to be my lil one first winter. He will be 6 months old end of this month. Do I need to get a heater for him or just thermal wear will do? I m from tropical country. Appreciate any advice. Thank you!
 
Winter in Hong Kong can get pretty cold as the buildings have bad insulation. I would think it is best to get a heater on standby and turn it on should you need it. Also, best to get a humidifier too as heater dries baby's skin.
 
We use heaters for babies and for OURSELVES! it depends on what you are used to and where you live. If you live in town it might not be as cold. An locals wear jackets or sweaters at home which we are not used to so we have heater on instead.

This is my baby first winter too. She will be 7 months by end of this month. How do I dress her for her bedtime? I heard that it is not safe to cover her with a blanket.

i would think putting your baby in long sleeves and buying a thicker grobag will do - i have a heater for my kids, but to be honest, i've only really used it a few times per year, first it makes them dry and i'm always worried about it over heating or if the heater will fall down during the night (even though there is a safety feature which stops the heaters when they fall, cause my baby slept by themselves). it's never so cold that a putting a couple more layers or wearing a thicker pajama won't solve the problem.
 
We have heaters for the living room during the day but don't use them in the bedrooms overnight. Long sleeved jammies with a gro bag should be fine, you can always add a cardigan if you're worried about the arms sticking out.
 
Last year when my baby was born there were a couple of weeks which were really cold. I did use a heater but tended to switch it on for a while, get the room warm and then switch off. I also used a warm clothes and a swaddle.
 
I usually use the heater to warm up the room and turn it off when baby goes to sleep. Also use it to warm the room before baths.
