Anyone here who has applied for an Irish passport for their newborn?

My husband and I are deliberating which country processes their passport quicker: Ireland or Australia. since we plan to travel as soon as we get our bub's passport. I know Australia can take 6 to 8 weeks.

Thanks !

When my daughter was born, both my husband and I were also wondering which to get (him English, me Irish). we decided we would go with the fastest one. When I researched the Irish passport application process, the website said it would take 6 weeks but at the time the passport office were on strike so it would have taken even longer than that! When we checked the UK passport they could do it within 5 days so we went that route.

The DFA website says that you need to contact the Irish consulate for more information so the details are:

Good luck!

Thanks AmyH for that valuable info. Looks like it's the same either countries. I've looked at the website too & they both have stringent rules on passport photos. Guess we'll apply for the Aussie & Irish & see who comes first!

Cheers

Hi AmyH,
I understand this post is a little while ago. I wondered how you applied for the passport in 5 days. Both my husband and I are in the same predicament. All I have found so far is that it will take us 6-8 weeks for UK passport.

Would really appreciate any help or advice.

Many thanks
L
