We would like for our daughter to attend Braemar Hill Nursery Kindergarten (which we are on the waitlist for). The school offered us a Head Start placement at ITT in Larvotto, Aberdeen, however it is quite far from our house (Midlevels Central). We understand that BHN ultimately picks its students from the ELP, who are chosen from the Head Start Program. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the transition from BHN Head Start into Kindy? And what kind of priority do you think they will give to ITT students?

Also in regards to ITT, how selective are they? We have heard differing opinions on this. However, our daughter was selected w/o an interview.

found a relevant chinese thread from a few yrs back (covering bhn), and thought i'd share w/ the community here, as it may not be searchable in english:

google translate translates the comments adequately. bhn/itt sounds like a great, although imperfect school (what school isn't?). we have decided to send our daughter here.

Hi, my daugther is also in ITT now and I would like to ask the exactly same things posted by you. Having regards to the fact that ITT is still a new institution, I am wondering how the transition and when BHN will have an interview.
If any one know, would appreciate your input. Thanks

I have more them a dozen of friends who have their child attending ITT, some with siblings already attending BHN. However, I have not heard one good comment on the ITT Program. The program used to have a 15 minute "subject" session, which was too rushed, after taking attedance, the child had no time to settle and it was time for them to switch to another room where they are supposed to "learn". They then changed each session to a 30 minute one, but still, i was told that if you really want your child to "learn" from the sessions, then forget about it.
6 of them was not granted an interview regardless their involvement at ITT. They are saying that there is absolutly no relationship between ITT and BHS> It is propbably just another marketing/ business strategy.
The interview and to get in to BHS still depends on our "background", whether the moms are full time mommies( which they very much prefer), whether the parents are from IVY league schools themselves, and of course, whether our children are smart.
My child is attending a preschool/playgroup in Causeway Bay, and it is by far the best one. we have been to shichida, baby buddies and little aristle, and many others and this new preschool does wonders comparatively. Not to mention to very reasonable tuition.
If anyone is interested, please pm me. this preschool only holds 3 classes a day, and most classes are full already. It is a pity they dont advertise. I only found out about the program through a friend.
As for ITT, I would suggest that you continue the sessions if you are financially able and if your child is happy there. But if you think the chances would be higher to get into BHN because of such, I would say otherwise......

I would love to try your child"s playgroup. Please pm me details! Thanks.

Wanyin, I would like to have info about the playgroup too! Thanks! And I would like to share the same thing that none of my friends who sent their kids to ITT likes it for the exact reason!

My 15-month-old son is attending the Headstart program at ITT and we both enjoy it very much. The teachers are caring and friendly, the facilities are state-of-the-art, and the different sessions (gym, language, creative arts, sensory, music, play), which last 0.5 hour each on a rotating schedule, are well thought out. The toddlers get exposed to 3 languages- Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. I find that my child is stimulated in this environment and he's starting to take what he has learned in school back home, which is awesome!
We're from Canada and we plan to go the international route- we don't plan to send our son to Braemar Hill, which to (my understanding) is a local nursery and kindy. I'm a working mom, too. The reason why my son is attending ITT is because it offers a great trilingual pre-preschool program which is structured but at the same time allows children to creatively explore.
I'm seeing an array of messages from "friends" of people who sent/ send their kids to ITT. I just wanted to offer my insight, as a mother whose child is actually attending ITT.
