Help!!! Where can I get low fat or fat free ice cream? or even sorbet fod goodness sake - without having to lug them home from a great distance~! Seems like nobody in HK cares about the amount of fat in regular ice creams!

Hi PreggerC - you can have XTC brand sorbets delivered to you if you don't have one nearby. But it'll cost ya! Call Dial-A-Dinner at 2598-1718.

does XTC has low fat option? i've always had full-fledge gelato there :p i've the same problem now... geez. i didn't care until i'm threatened with gest. diabetes, now realize there's NO fat-free options in HK! parknshop is hopeless.. ZERO!

The sorbet is low-fat, not low-sugar. Obviously the gelato is full-fat and full-sugar ;-p If you need low-sugar, then I don't have any advice :-(

gelato is made with milk, unlike ice-cream which is made with cream. you can try the yogurt ice cream, rice ice-cream. you have to check the fat content & sugar content on the labels thought. i'm not sure how much fat & sugar are in them. can be found at oliver's & 360.

Why don't you buy one of those icecream machines which you put the tub in the freezer and make your own sorbet from fruit juice or other fat free less sugar equivalent? it only costs a few hundred dollars and all you need to do is freeze the container, throw in the juice/equivalent, turn on the machine and eat your sorbet within 1/2 hour.

good idea, andreaY. you can also use xylitol (a plant sugar suitable for diabetes) or honey instead of sugar.

I got the Italian DeLonghi one from Sogo, it's quite good. In Hong Kong hot weather though, the tub tends to thaw a little too quickly, so I would suggest churning in air-con room and wrapping a towel round the outside of the tub when churning. If you are willing to splash out, the self freeze one from Cuisintec works better.
