Hypothyroid question?

Hi Ladies, I was recently diagnosed with a hypothyroidism and I have been put on Thyroxine. They discovered the thyroid issue because I hadn't gotten my period in 5 months! My husband and I are going to start trying again as soon as I get my period back and I wanted to see if any of you pregnant women out there had similar thyroid issues and if it affected (or didn't affect) your cycles. Did Thyroxine ultimately help regulate your body and help you conceive? I am basically looking for hope that the Thyroxine will help me get back to normal and eventually conceive! Thanks!
 
Hi, I developed hypothyroidism after my first pregnancy and was also put on Thyroxine. I don't remember it affecting my period and I got pregnant no problem when we decided to have baby #2 (about 18 months after having baby #1).

Regarding Thyroxine, the biggest issue will be to make sure you are at the right levels during your pregnancy. You will need to get tested every month until baby is born. Good luck.
 
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year and a half ago. After about 8 months I started to get regular and could see if I was extremely stressed it affected my cycle. I was on armour thyroid and synthroid. Today after being in HK about two months and in need to get more medicine and not having gotten my period in seven weeks I went to an obgyn for some help. They basically said I was in the wrong place but made me take a pregnancy test anyway. Which I could have told them would be negative. Anyway, just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to find a doctor who is familiar with thyroid problems and ovulation. Also how do you feel on thyroxine? It seems to be the only medicine available here and I really wanted to stick to what was working for me.
Can anyone please help after a frustrating day.
 
i actually got hypothyrodism WHEN i was pregnant. it disappeared after delivery... sorry, that doesn't answer your question...
 
Yes, I read that from some of the other thyroid threads. I was really hoping for something helpful, thanks.
 
Hi You could try Lauren Bramley at Lauren Bramley and Partners- if I remember, she has a qualification in endocrinology as well as being a GP and if she isn't quite the right person re: ovulation, she can definitely point you to the right specialist. She diagnosed my hypothyroidism after pregnancy. I've been on thyroxine for 2.5 years and although the doc says my levels are correct, I definitely don't have the same kind of energy as I did before I developed the condition- don't know if the problem is being busy with kids or not having the correct medication. But as you said, thyroxine is the only drug available in HK for this thing. Can you not order your previous medication online from overseas and just have the HK doctors check your levels regularly? I hope this helps a little.
 
Thank you both. I will look her up. Do you know how much she is per visit? I'm working on ordering my medication through my most recent doctor and pharmacy and sending it to my mum but I'm not sure how long i can make that last. Thanks.
 
Hi Sarah, I go to Dr. Bramley for very similar reasons etc and went through a similar process with the doctors before I found her. PM me if you want to discuss!! She is great though!

Sorry I can't remember how much I paid per visit. My insurance did cover alot of it.
