How to find a GP

Hello everyone,

I am 5 weeks pregnant (HPT).

I would like to get a confirmation from a GP as the next step. How do I go about doing this? I do not currently have a doctor.

I live in Lai Chi Kok, which I believe is in the catchment area for Princess Margaret. Do I call Obstetrics and ask for an appointment?

Please help! Thank you!

As far a i know you can't make an appt to see a hospital doctor, you would need to go to a regular doctor's office. If you're planning on using a private OB during your pregnancy your best bet is to ask for recommendations for good OBs and start there.

For what it's worth, I got my pregnancy confirmed at my (private) GPs office in central, she wrote me a referral which I then took to my local public hospital to register for treatment.

You can take pregnancy tests at the family planning clinic of the MCHC's if you want to do it in the public system. For me, the first time I went to my private GP who confirmed with a blood test. 2nd and 3rd pregnancies, I went to a private ob who confirmed with an ultrasound.

I believe you have to get a letter from a GP first confirming the pregnancy before you can register at the hospital. I have a GP in central who made me do a urine pregnancy test - it cost 150 bucks because i have no cover for anything maternity related. they then gave me 2 letters, one for my employer and one for the hospital.

I'm sure you can go to any doctor in Lai Chi Kok for the basic test to confirm the pregnancy then you can call the hospital who will book you in for when you are around 12 weeks.
