How to deal with Medicine Time!

Hi

Can someone give me some tips on how to feed my 2 year old her medicine without any struggle, yelling and threatening? I'm seriously quite tired of talking nicely to her anymore because nothing seems to work. Not even if i mixed it in her yogurt or milk or offered her jellybeans afterwards.

To be fair, some tricks do work for 2-3 times and that's it then it's back to 'drive me nuts' time.

HELP!

I have the same problem with my 16 mth old boy. He yelled and struggled as if I am poisoning him. I tried it direct with a syringe. He spit and med goes all over the floor and clothes. Then I tried it in his milk and juice, seems to work for a while. Now I put it direct into his porridge.

Doc's advice was: 1) by med syringe but with an empty stomach (otherwsie very easy to vomit) 2) add to about 1-2 oz of milk so it is easy for him to finish the med without waste.

How to deal with Medicine Time

my boy is 2 years 2 month old, he feed himself the medicine with the spoon. At this age, the kid likes to be independent.

Hi,

My baby is 15 months and we just came back from the Dr who gave her a suppository. He said it would be easier to "administer" than the syrup kind. Any experience on this would be a great help. Thanks!

I had difficulty giving my daughter medicine as well even with a syringe. Then I found that using the syringe to squirt the medicine towards her cheek worked well- this way is much easier for her to swallow and she doesnt gag. After a few times, her discomfort towards taking medicine went away and now there are no tears.

I use a new non spill sippy cup. I'll put all the measured medicine syrup into the cup, (eg. cough + phlegm + running nose) and mix with some ribena syrup and water. Then i place the cup on the table and tell my 30mth old boy there's juice for him. He'll take the sippy cup, and drink from it himself. The ribena mixture, with 3 different types of medicine, tastes a little like prune juice. But my son is more interested on the Elmo on the sippy cup and the fact it's a new cup, that he'll just sip and sip from it until he's done.

Before i treid this method, he'll spit out all medicine, whether i mix it with milk, food, or juice, spoon, cup, bowl or syringe. I've even tried blowing his face to distract him (read somewhere). Nothing works and he'll even force vomit, so even his previous meal is out. So i've never given him any medicine. When he has high fever (life threatening), i would take him to clinic to take an injection. The rest of the time, he'll just have to recover slowly.
