how to chose a helper?

hi
i am new to Hk and to employing helpers. i have interviewed 3 so far, and am concerned that 2 of them have had or have 'issues' with their employers. is this common? should you employ without a good ref from the last employer?
any tips grateful.

I was very particular about employer reference and strongly recommend it unless the employer has left HK. I have had bad referencs for helpers i liked a lot....honestly 3 is too small a number i met more than 100 before i found my current one. Maybe my number is high because i wasn't able to finalise the right one and she signed before i could make up my mind. My gut feel is if she has issues with the previous employer she might have same isues with unless they are really nasty people....
