Cath,

I'm sorry but I've had to edit yr msg. I'd appreicate if you would refrain from posting urls of the "other" Expat site.

Thanks
Rani

May,

Our helper was refered to us by a friend. She had placed a helper advertisement and she was her 2nd choice.

It all depends on what you're looking for? I know a lot of families prefer someone new and will not hire a helper already in HK. If this is the case, you'll need to work with an agency.

If you're ok with hiring someone already in HK, a good site is www.amahnet.com You can contact the helpers directly to arrange interviews and very important check references.

The Dollarsaver magazine also includes ads of departing Expats who are looking for new employers for their helpers. However, they do get a good response from their ads and you may not even get a chance to interview the helpers.

I've also asked Julie Jacobsen author of Helper's Helper to respond to your question.

rani,cath,
Thank you very much for your informations.
I've visited the amahnet, however,my friend told me the informations provided by them are not real. She told me many of them are fired by the employers. I'll try to search in the magazines you recommended. Thanks again.

Other moms,
If u have any informations, pls share! Thanks!

May,

Your welcome.

Amahnet, there will be some helpers who have been terminated by their employers. I would avoid the helpers who have been here for an odd number of years. And yes, do check references and release letters.

Hi May,
Some of the Domestic helper had been released earlier is due to other reasons such as employer financial problems, moving out of Hong Kong etc.
Anyway, if u need more helps u can send me a Private message.

Take care.

Hi May,

We found our helper via the Dollarsaver which I managed to find online (although scanned and a bit hard to read without zooming in a lot). Our helper has been great so far and came with a recommendation. I noticed that all of the helpers posted offered recommendations from existing employers, so that should be some comfort at least.

Good Luck!
