Hospital bag C-section vs vaginal birth

Hi dear moms,

Due to medical reasons, I will have a scheduled c-section instead of a vaginal birth. Aside from all the feelings that accompanied this unexpected news, I'm looking at practical things now, and am wondering about the hospital bag and what things I should add or leave out. I'm having the c-section in Queen Mary Hospital. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi Liseliselise - I can completely relate, I am also having a scheduled c-section when I was looking forward to a vaginal birth. Lots of emotions. Mostly feeling like I am "missing out" on the labor experience.

I'm delivering in a private hospital so I don't know exactly what the differences would be, but from doing online research and talking to friends these are things that seem specifically good for c-sections:

- big granny panties that sit high on the waist so doesn't irritate the incision site
- a water bottle with a straw so easier to drink without having to sit up all the way
- maternity pads - still need them as bleeding happens even in c-section
- dried fruit - constipation is a common side effect

Hi Newbian,

Thanks so much for your reply. Yeh, I know what you mean about the feeling of "missing out", although I'm slowly getting used to the idea now and it is the best for the baby. Thanks for your suggestions, I will definitely add these things to my hospital bag. Good luck with the delivery. All that matters in the end is to have healthy little bubs in our arms, after all these months.
