Horrible Cough....15 weeks pregnant

Hello all,

I was hoping that maybe someone (ANYONE!) could give me some advice on how to help ease a horrific cough. I am 15 weeks pregnant and have had this awful cough (and heavy gross phlegm) for a few days that has kept me up at night....ALL night. The GP says that it's just a common cold. I have tried everything from honey/lemon water to hot showers to rubs on my chest. The nurse at my OB clinic says, "get more rest." Hell, if I could sleep....I WOULD! ;)

To be honest, I have broken down and taken Mucinex (without Phenylephrine in it) today, but I am very uncomfortable taking any of these types of medications.

Any remedies out there? Advice?

Much appreciated!!

I too had bad cough around 12th or 14th week(mostly at night). Just drank warm water with ginger or lemon and took lots of rest. It went away after a week or so. I would suggest not to take any medicines as it might not be good for you and the baby.

I was really sick when I was pregnant too, I had a horrid chest infection. I just took it really easy, loads of sleep, and breathing in steam.

Get well soon :)

Thank you all for the replies!

8 days later, two doctor visits in, contagious pink eye in both eyes, no sleep, lots of honey/ginger/lemon.......I think I might be finally winning the war! Apparently it's going around HK and is pretty rough on everyone. The steamy showers were definitely the best remedy. My OB did recommend a good cough syrup if anyone needs in the future.

Happy New Year's to all! Thanks again for the encouraging words!
